Re: TE still unaddressed
I fully expected the Vikes to draft a TE in the draft.
It makes you wonder why it wasn't such a priority?
After all, we are a running team.
Good TEs and good running games go together like peas and carrots in the NFL.
AND it's always a good idea to give a young developing QB a TE to lean on.
Quick short passes could be just what Tarvaris needs to take some pressure off.
Instead we're left with Shiancoe who ranked near the bottom it catches and yards among TEs in the league.
I'm starting to think Garrett Mills might have a brighter future than what has been reported.
He did get his first game action in w17 with a couple grabs for 26 yds.
Doesn't sound like much, but Shiancoe only avgeraged 20 yds a game.
If Mills can be just as productive at 3 yrs younger, then it can be assumed that he's just a better athlete and will be better when he reaches 27.
Definitely something to watch this camp, the TE is an important position in the WCO and nothing came in the draft.

I think that the Vikes probably would of taken a TE had our Picks not gone the way they did.
My guess is that there was no one that they felt couldo fhelped the team at teh point they had picks
My guess is at this point they will evaluate what they have come trainin g camp and pre-season and also see who gets released.

I was talking NFL with a guy who follows the NFL a LOT, and breaks the NFL down constantly. He is not a Vikings fan. He made the comment that tight end is the Vikings' weak spot. I agree. I am surprised we didn't address this issue, either in the draft or free agency.
I realize we have Shiancoe, but he really has not shown me anything yet.http://www.purplepride.org/forums/index.php?topic=45637.0TE Visanthe Shiancoe, a disappointment last season after signing as a free agent, was a standout at minicamp. Shiancoe made several nice catches, including three circus grabs on the first day of the workouts.
BTW, Shiancoe is listed as second on the depth chart behind Jimmy K.

Childress went after Shiancoe over a very sure handed Wiggins last year & let Wihhins go. More speed & YAC would be guess as to his reasoning. We had very few picks this year in the draft & TE wasn't as much as a pressing need as other spots. Jim Kliensasser
Visanthe Shiancoe
Garrett Mills
Jeff Dugan
Braden Jones
6.3% of our 80 man roster is used up by TE's alone. How many more does he figure we should have picked up?

Not to mention, that type of TE would chew up a good part of our Cap, something that has shrunk in size this season...
I believe VS is going to be fine, and a very capable TE......Last year alot of players where learning the system and growing together, and he just happened to be one of them.
I expect to see more of the real VS this season.

Re: TE still unaddressed
With NFL parity being what it is, one small piece can mean the difference between winning and losing.
I thus don't see that as a hit against our cap...
This is one piece that can keep us out of the Show. Please remember: a tight end is not just some guy, he is often the check-down guy when it is 3rd down and everyone else is covered.
And as John Madden always says, the 3rd downs are what win games.
