Tavaris Jackson = Quincy Carter - the baggage
Granted Qunicy Carter had some off-the-field issues; drug & alcohol arrests while playing for the Cowboys, does anyone feel that the Tavaris is the Vikings Quincy Carter.
I mean the guy just is not getting better but he does have those Michael Vick/Vince Young physical skills - good scrambler and strong arm.
Are the Vikings pinning their hopes on their Qunicy Carter or does Tavaris have the potential to be the next Tommy Kramer?

Minus "the baggage".
The point is the Cowboys overreached in the draft thinking QC was the next Vick and it appears the Vikings have done the same with TJ.

I think you forgot to mention that they were African American.

He could just as well be compared to Rex Grossman instead.
A sub par QB which the organization feels can lead manage the game to win games.

Yeesh, has it come to that? Are we hoping that TJ "rises up" to the level of Tommy Kramer? Hell, why don't we just give him a few doubles an hour before the game, and see how he does? I liked Kramer, as he was something of an amalgam of Billy Kilmer, Bobby Layne, Ken Stabler and that drunk guy who lives down the street from me. If the Vikings are going to go anywhere, they are going to need more than Tommy Kramer redux.

Re: Tavaris Jackson = Quincy Carter - the baggage
Tarvaris Jackson has started a grand total of 6 NFL games through this, his second NFL season.
It turns out that he is not exactly ready for prime time yet like Tom Brady, Vince Young, and Ben Rothlisberg were when they were rookies.
With more NFL experience, and the passage of a few years, however, TJ could capitalize on his physical gifts and become the great NFL quarterback that others have become, like Tony Romo, Jon Kitna, Kurt Warner, Matt Hasselbeck, and more.
If we cut, trade, or let TJ get away from the Vikes, though, he will take his gifts to another team, and if he does become great, we will have totally wasted a 2nd round pick and let slip a great player.
That's why we need to keep TJ on the roster.
As neither Donovan McNabb nor Kurt Warner is a Viking yet, TJ is the best available QB on the roster, and so he has been thrust into the starting role. This exposes TJ to the game earlier, but also runs the risk that fans would sour on him before he has a chance to really shine. It's a tough call, but starting TJ now when healthy is the right decision.
Go Vikings!

Re: Tavaris Jackson = Quincy Carter - the baggage
I tend to think that Tarvaris is like Akili Smith. Remember him ?
... me either...
The NFL is full of ex-QBs who panicked at the first sign of a pass rush. I see zero reason to think that T-Jacks is different.
BTW, did you see that 56 yard TD by Westbrook. Now THAT is how the so-called "west coast offense" is supposed to run.
It doesn't run when the QB just panics.

Re: Tavaris Jackson = Quincy Carter - the baggage
There are very very very few QB's that have played in 6 games and are good. Just the way it goes. He does at least have the physical skills.

Why even bring-up Carter and the drugs, arrests, etc?
And then you bring up potential and Tommy Kramer?
For all we know Carter may not even touch one ounce of alcohol?
