Re: Tarvaris Jackson: Vikings' Quarterback of the Future?

Here's an interesting post I found on the KFAN site.

This guy said he was looking at TJ stats and compared his first six games to his last six games. Then using the stats for the last six games compared them to some of the other NFL players. His point was that TJ made good strides during his last six games. The first column is the QB rating the second, the percentage of completions. He made the point of he knew that the other teams stacked the box but he didn't feel the receivers we had were anyting special so he considered that a wash.

I will take it for what it is worth. I don't think it means ALOT, but I was very happy with the way he played out the string. Happy enough to where I think he needs to get the shot next year to be the guy again. He can make plays as long as he keeps his head about him I think he is our guy.

Please, Tarvaris' play cost us the playoffs, even if he did have some "efficient" 130 yard passing days...

He better be much improved next year if we have any chance at making the playoffs...

Hmm ... I think we are just going to disagree on this. I don't really think he "cost" us the playoffs really. I mean ... if he protects the ball in the second game of the season against Detroit we likely win ... and he definitely did not look good against the Redskins ... but we were SERIOUSLY outcoached in the first half of that game.
I think our lack of playmaker receivers of any type hurts us a lot more than T-Jack's play. He did have a 90+ rating in four of our final six games ... and as for 130-yard "efficient" days ... he went over 200 yards in 3 of our last five. While he definitely is not WINNING us games ... I think he showed serious improvement by the end of the season.

Totally disagree. A QB with a 45 % completion percentage in a "west coast offense" is a total joke. We need a real NFL QB, not a guy who had a 45 % completion percentage in I-AA college football. Let's just review: Childress (a coach who took a 9-7 team and turned it into an 8-8 club and got totally outcoached by the Redskins this year) thinks that he can turn T-Jakcs into McNabb (meanwhile, McNabb is not even that good anymore, by NFL standards).

Does anyone here still believe the hype ?
    :
I totally disagree with your response.

Over his last seven starts, Jackson had a 64.9% completion percentage (and it was 58.2% over the entire season).
Your comment about a "QB with a 45% completion percentage in a "west coast offense"" is the first total joke.

"We need a real NFL QB, not a guy who had a 45 % completion percentage in I-AA college football." is the second total joke.
Jackson had a 52.1% completion percentage in his junior year, 60.9% completion percentage in his senior year...not to mention 49 TD passes to 14 picks over those two seasons.
No one is saying that Jackson is necessarily going to tear up the NFL like he did D1-AA, but playing at a small school is no guarantee of failure at a higher level, nor is playing at a major school a guarantee of success.

Donovan McNabb had 19 TD passes to 7 interceptions in his 14 games this season.
In 2006, it was 18 TD passes to 6 interceptions in 10 games.
While McNabb isn't throwing 50+ TD passes like Tom Brady, those numbers ARE still considered "that good anymore, by NFL standards".

"Does anyone here still believe the hype ?"
On the contrary...can anyone here still believe the hate?

Coach not 'jumping up and down' over prospects

Brad Childress had his season wrapup meeting with the bosses this week.

The Vikings coach kept his thoughts about the confab with owner Zygi Wilf private, but Childress did express a rare, though slight, admission of relief.....
