tampa 2 or minnesota 2

i was talking to my brother and we decided the the great "tampa 2" was missnamed. i was only a teenager when dungy was in minn. but i remember that they played alot of cover 2. and the defense was awesome till he left. so we believe it is unfair for everyone to call it the tampa 2 when it started in minn. and i just can't see myself calling it the tampa 2 all next season. i know it will take a little longer to say and type minnesota 2 but i think it is justifiable to change it back to it's rightful name

Yeah that is a good point you make. It should be Minnesota 2 but I just call it cover 2.

I have heard it called the Tomlin 2 as his will be a variation.

To call it cover 2 would sell it slightly short I feel.

Until the Vikings do something with the D it will never be called the minnesota 2, except in the land of purple shades. The Bucs had a top-tier defense for years so that is how they robbed the name. I'm betting that a new names will transpire during the next 5 yrs based on the superfluous play of the Vikings squad

So thanks to Minnesota playing more than is required play on the field, the Tampa 2 will change it's name? Surely playing more than is required is what Erasmus James did when he got called for unecessary roughness last year.. Sorry mate, I read that and had to think about what you meant there for a while! :wink:

Back on subject tho: I've always called it the Cover 2. That's the name of the coverage. Tampa weren't the first to use it, and now that Indianapolis have been so successful using it these past few years, is it going to be called the Indy 2 from now on? Answer: NO. So forget which team ESPN is kneeling down in front of and blowing this season, or next season.. It doesn't particularly matter.

Then again, I'm probably one of the only people who thinks it's a contradiction for teams like the Eagles, the Packers and the Vikings to run a West Coast Offence. :grin:
