Taking a last look at fixing the Dome for the Vikings

Taking a last look at fixing the Dome for the Vikings

A Metrodome renovation is being studied, although Vikings officials say the site really isn't big enough by today's NFL standards.

I wonder why the heck Zigy would spend 45 million on those 4 blocks he just bought if the site isnt big enough to rebuild on????
Something isnt making sense here.

That isn't what the article said at all.

But the Metrodome, Viking officials say, simply isn't big enough by 21st-century National Football League standards.

The Metrodome is built on less than a 1 million-square-foot surface, but plans for a new stadium on and around the Dome site would cover 1.6 million square feet, said Lester Bagley, Vikings vice president of stadium development and public affairs
That is saying that the Metrodome itself isn't big enough.
The new stadium would have to sit on more than just the metrodome land.

By god if we are spending 300 million dollars more than the cowboys we shure as heck should be getting a bigger facility than them.

I say we go all out and build one with 2.5 million SF and take the price up to 1.5 billion just to give the cowboys stadium envy.

???

The Cowboys stadium was estimated at over 1 billion dollars when it was approved last year, and they are already into price overruns.
Our stadium is estimated under 1 billion, even with the 2009 prices figured in.

I got those numbers from here:

http://www.stadiumsofnfl.com/future/CowboysStadium.htm

In order to pay for the stadium,
in November 2004, Arlington voters approved a tax increase to help Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones build the $650 million stadium in the North Texas city. Voters approved a measure that would raise the city sales tax by a half-cent, hotel occupancy tax by 2 percent, and car rental tax by 5 percent. Work at the stadium site, near Ameriquest Field home of the Texas Rangers, began in May 2006 as workers began to excavate the site. On February 6, 2011, the new Cowboys Stadium will host the biggest game in any sport, Super Bowl XLV.

I don't think there is much of a chance of the vikes getting anything close to what dallas has planned, which is sad because for a little more we could have a structure that would become a national landmark.
Still it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to spend 1billion on a stadium that will be used for 8 games a year. If the stadium lasts about 25 years(thats how old the dome is) that is $50,000,000.00 per game.

They play 10 games at the dome. 2 pre-season & 8 regular season.
