I wasn't aware of the 46th man rule on the active roster for the 3rd Qb.

The third quarterback rule says that he is basically the 46th guy on your roster. If he enters the game before the fourth quarter, then the other two (QBs) are done for the game. Technically, there are a lot of teams that deactivate eight because they only have two quarterbacks on their roster. Last week vs. Chicago, we had Tarvaris on the inactive list so we had eight down and only two quarterbacks up. But the basic rule of thumb is that if the third quarterback comes in before the fourth quarter, then the other two quarterbacks are done for the game.

Yea, you don't see it too often because once he comes in the other two QB's are done for the day no matter what happens. I think that's why many teams dress three rather than name an emergency QB.
