This is going to be an interesting offseason.
I know that Spielman was the GM for Miami a few years back, seeing how I am not that familiar with his style, what is everyones opinion of him.
Is Giving him the final say in all decisions on draft day a good or bad thing?
Thanks in advance.
He probably won't do any worse of a job then what Fran Foley would have done.. If that helps at all...

That isn't saying much. Saban was still blasting Rick Spielman on Saban's way out the door."Stonecoldet3" wrote:

And Spielman hasn't been in Miami for a year.
Here's a quote from Saban that spells out what he liked about Spielman;

Re: Spielman: Vikings won't be so noisy in free agency
I think this article just means we won't be plucking out FAs left and right like the past two years.
This does not mean we won't sign some receivers, it just means we won't be signing 11 players like last year.

Nate Clements, London Fletcher, Drew Bennett....all three of these players would instantly upgrade our team...to just pass on them is STUPID!!!!
BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Re: Spielman: Vikings won't be so noisy in free agency
if my mind fails me didn't Nick Saban's first year with the Dolphins (and spielman) result in them not having a first round pick, i can't remember and i am too tired to look it up, but if we dont have a productive FA then i expect them to be making draft day moves, either to move down or up to get in position to get who we really want (John David Booty) lol JK JK

This indication tells me that if Spielman has his way, he might trade away our 7th pick to aquire a later/more later round picks."Going back to my Chicago days, I remember one year we had seven picks and ended up with 14 by the end of it," he said. "Sometimes we've moved up. I've had success moving up where we moved up four spots and got Chris Chambers (with Miami in 2001). … But for the most part, I think where we're at right now, we want to try to accumulate as many young guys and build this up through the draft."
It also doesn't give me a warm fuzzy that our team will do a whole lot better next year. I get the impression they plan to target players that might help us 1-3 years down the road.

Re: Spielman: Vikings won't be so noisy in free agency
The offseason is all about smoke and mirrors.
Nothing they say matters because they know their plan and will grab who they need in the draft or FA or from the dumpster behind McDonald's if necessary.
Spielman is the weakest link on the team.
If Foley was Fred Flintstone, Spielman is Gomer Pyle.

Are we ever noisey in Free agency?
Stop signing lineman to 50 million dollar contracts and spend a little in free agency.
I know we are a lot under the cap but I don't know why we have an offense line worth almost 150 Million dollars.

Nice to know that Speilman is actually doing his job and communicating with the media.
Edit: You could probably merge this into 'Spielman: Vikings won't be so noisy in free agency.' Forgot about that thread.
