Thread: Spielman promoted to GM
-
I hold more contempt at this time for Ziggy than Spielman to be quite honest. Spielman is just trying to feed his family and keep the paychecks coming in while Wilf is ultimately responsible for these failed leadership decisions. He is the only one in the organization who has the ability to use due diligence to form the organization from top to bottom and so far he has not done well.

For those of you who oppose the Vikings' decision to promote Rick Spielman to general manager:
Who would you have selected in Rick's place???

Packers head of Player Personnel and Scout school (Best scouts in the business)
Bill Parcels (President)
Carl Peterson
Bill Polian
Charlie Casserly (ok maybe not)
Mike Mayock...
Anybody but this baffooon... responsible for the collapse, and 3-13 team. His only hits have been in the first round sometimes 2nd and anywhere on the D-line... Let's not even talk about how he ruined Chicago and Miami....

On a positive note, at least we'll have accountability for next year's draft and offseason. If he sucks, he'll be gone. Of course, having our second worst season ever (were there 16 games in Les' lame year?) leading to the third pick of the draft might be bad timing to just cross our fingers and hope for the best. An early pick like this is exactly what can turn a franchise around...OR...send it further down the toilet!?! Having that early pick round after round gives you a better chance at help, but higher cost contracts too.
Unfortunately we don't know the he-said/she-said that went into this past year's offseason and draft...hard to say who pulled for who. Maybe, Hopefully!? Frazier is excited because he realizes his personal relationships with the players might be great motivationon, but really freaking tough on the hard personel decisions, and that this helps him take a step back from that sad side to the business.
The worst part tho is that this whole mess is starting to smell a lil too much like the McCombs era...come in strong, spend a bunch of money on free agency and then cut all costs when you realize you're not going to get to surround your new stadium with your very own mini-mall money-maker and jump ship.
This offseason is going to be big for the Vikings on many levels. If we're super cheap on FA, status quo on 3-13 style personel, look for a fire sale and an increased likelyhood of moving! D'oh!!!
SKOL VIKINGS!!! LET'S TURN THIS SHIP AROUND!!!Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

MM true.. but it's gonna take atleast 3 years to evaluate Rick's selections this year, and probably 2 years or 1.5 to see where Les II is in his coaching progression. This unfortunately commits the next few years to these guys and by the time we get someone competent in there assuming Wilf does the right thing and hires someone with a brain it could be a little late for our key players due to age...

FUNNY STAT..... Frazier won as many games last year in half the time as he did this year with ALL the time...
I don't wanna hear about No offseason... first year coaches with no offseason and a rookie QB did pretty good down in Carolina... and Marv over in Cincy did pretty well with a rookie QB and a bunch of injuries... can't tell me our offense isn't better than cincy's...
Ditto for Oakland and Tennessee... Shoot even Cleveland had a better record than we did with a rookie coach and in a tougher division... (3 playoff teams)...

Well, Spielman made the exact same promotion with the Dolphins. VP of Player Personnel to GM. And he only survived one season as the GM in 2004. Hopefully it only takes Zygi one year to figure out that this guy is a colossal mistake for the franchise.

Sorry Rick! Keep up the good work.
