Some hate for Byron/Some love for Daunte
JAGS WANT FAT ALBERT TO START FASTING
Word out of the 'Ville is that the Jaguars want quarterback Byron "Fat Albert" Leftwich to quit devouring so many vittles.
Listed a six-foot-five and 245 pounds, we think that the accurate number is at least 260, perhaps more.
We've continuously reported that some in the organization would prefer to give the ball to backup David Garrard, who coincidentally signed a three-year extension shortly before the draft.
With the team now installing a vertical-based passing game under the tutelage for former USC quarterbacks coach Carl Smith, Leftwich will need periodically to buy a little time for himself to enable his receivers to get free, even when operating out of the shotgun. To make that happen, he needs to be a little more mobile. To be a little more mobile, there needs to be a little less of him.
And there is, was, and always will be a big difference between Leftwich and Daunte Culpepper, Minnesota's oversized signal-caller. Culpepper is big all over with more muscle than fat, and he can run like a bull and move like a ballerina when necessary. Leftwich is a rocket arm wrapped in baby fat, and he moves like he's got a load of last night's dinner in his pants.
Besides, any time a brand-new offense is getting installed, there's a chance (however small) that the No. 2 guy will figure it out quicker and execute it better than the previous starter.
We're not predicting -- yet -- that Garrard will unseat Leftwich. But if Byron doesn't back off from the biscuits between now and the opening of training camp, he could be setting the tone for an eventual benching, especially if the Jags can't parlay recent upgrades into more wins and less losses.

Thats funny....Leftwich is like a poor man's Daunte......and he does look rather fat......but what a warrior on Sundays...remember when the guy got carried down the field with a broken leg.....tough as nails.....much love for both Leftwich and of course Big Pepp!

Leftwich is a good QB in this league. He is kind of like McNair in that while it isn't always pretty he seems to get the job done, and he is one of the NFL's toughest guys.

Re: Some hate for Byron/Some love for Daunte
i like the jags. i dont really follow them religiously, but id say if the vikings were knocked out of the playoffs, id root for the jags before anyone else. maybe thats cause im originally from alabama.. and i cant root for the falcons, not with vick under center.
