EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota Vikings cornerback Fred Smoot is expected to miss four to six weeks because of a broken right collarbone.
Smoot initially hurt his shoulder Oct. 30 at Carolina and aggravated the injury last week against Detroit -- sitting out briefly before returning. The initial diagnosis was a painful but minor injury called a stinger, but coach Mike Tice said Wednesday that Smoot was found to have a fracture.
Brian Williams will replace Smoot in the starting lineup for the Vikings (3-5), who visit the New York Giants on Sunday. Ralph Brown will become the nickel back.
Smoot, who left Washington and signed a six-year contract worth $34 million that included a $10.8 million bonus with Minnesota in March, has 37 tackles, one interception and a team-high 11 passes defended this year.

I dont have a problem with brian williams playing. But you know that now the giants will bein alot of 3 and 4 reciever sets to take advantage of the 2 new and raw guys.At least I would.
If winning isn,t everything, why keep score?

Re: Smoot out 4-6 weeks
Ouch...you guys are having the same problem we had last year with injuries. It sucks. There was one point where we lost our starting SS (wilson), Michael Strahan, our starting LT Petigout, both our Starting CB's and both our LB's (Green & Emmons) last year.
The only positive you can take from it is that at least your young replacements will get experience. It did wonders for our young guys from last year, because a few of them (Umenyiora, Greisen, Deloatch, etc.) are big contributors this year...
Although this weekends game is getting tougher and tougher for you guys

Oh, God, no!!! This isn't going to help with our new short passing and grind-it-out offense!
...Oh, well. I suppose there ARE worse backups than B-Will.

Re: Smoot out 4-6 weeks
son of a b1tch...I think brian williams is probably the best back up/nickle cb in the league but I do know he has coverage issues. This is a tough loss but the way this season has been going its almost exspected. Say what you want about smoot hes a damn good CB, and he played awesome last week. This will hurt us against the giants thier wide outs are good...f*************************k!

Theres NOTHING greater then a Florida Gator!
