    Sid Hartman: Moss Trade=Bad

Sid Hartman: Moss trade not good for Vikings

This week's Sports Illustrated has a picture of former Vikings receiver Randy Moss on the cover with the following statement:

"I can't really have any friends. It is sad, really. It's lonely. But that's how I am."

The inside article went on to say: "That's why I really don't care what people think or say about me, because I'm my own man. Nobody helps me, comes and pays my bills when it is time [for them] to be paid, and nobody wakes me up in the morning or works out for me.

"My thing is, that unless you have been in my shoes, don't say nothing to me; and if you don't care for me, then, oh well."

Randy owns four houses: one in Charlotte, N.C., where his four children live; one in St. Albans, W.Va., where his mother lives; one here in the Twin Cities, with an indoor swimming pool and a basketball court; and the small, 1,700-square foot home in Boca Raton, Fla., where he spent a lot of time even when he was with the Vikings.

"Do Not Disturb" is the title of the story.

Moss, as private as he is, broke down a bit by letting SI come to Florida and do the story and photo shoot.

Speaking about his mooning pantomime after he scored a touchdown against the Packers during the playoff victory over Green Bay, he said: "The Green Bay thing was fun, like being caught up in the moment. When happiness and joy hit you, it's hard to hold in."

Moss pointed out that had the Vikings spent the money on players, they would have won a Super Bowl while he was here.

He said that the hardest part of being traded was it broke up his relationship with quarterback Daunte Culpepper.

"Once you grow to love a person, a breakup is kind of hard," Moss said in the story. "I thought Culpepper was [my friend], but now that everything's happened, it seems to me I lost a friend.

"I used to go over to Daunte's all the time. I'd call him up after practice and ask him what he was doing. He'd say 'You know we are doing it big. Come on over.' I thought I had a friend in Daunte, but obviously I didn't."

Moss played seven seasons for the Vikings, catching 574 passes for 9,142 yards and 90 touchdowns.

He says he can't be mad at the Vikings after all the money he has made and the good life it has brought him.

Well, apparently I am in the minority. Most of the media and most Vikings officials believe that the Moss trade will turn out to be a plus for the Vikings. I don't. I had a great relationship with Randy. There was a lot of envy among the media because of that relationship. He told me once: "We both came up the hard way -- that is why I respect you."

It is hard to defend a lot of stupid things that Moss did. But just the same, I will miss those many non-football conversations in the Vikings locker room and sometimes in the parking lot that we had.

But I think the Vikings will miss him a lot more.

    ------------------------------------------------------

I agree to some extent, but I feel it depends on how they do this season....if the new guys step up, it was worth it.....otherwise, no...it wasnt! Man, I miss Randy.

I hope Moss enters the Hall of Fame as a Viking and not as a Raider! That would blow....the Vikes should resign him when his contract is up in like 5 years or whenever!

I'm glad he admitted that he's in the minority on this old topic. There's a reason he's in the minority and still pondering to himself in the dark about why the trade happened. It's sad some people just can't let go, really sad.
The best part of my day is when I get down on my knees, with my head in my hands, and thank GOD for everything he has given me.

Sid must have rode Randy's jock while he was with the Vikings more than Michael Wilbon rode Jordan's when Jordan was playing here in DC for the Wizards!

Sid is nothing but a jock-rider and a bullshitter. He makes up stories to try and look more important than he is and his quotes never have any validity other than the fact that he "swear" that is the way it was.

Sid was the only local reporter that Randy would talk to the last few years he was her. And that was because Sid would agree with Randy on everything, and wouldn't write anything bad about him!

Sid is an old has been that thinks the owners and players are always right, and that we should just believe everything that they say.

Ar least 9 times over that last 10 years he has written that if we did not solve the Twins stadium issue that the Twins would not be playing here after that season.

10 years later they are still here!

and he wrote the same type of article again 2 weeks ago, if the new stadium proposal does not go through that's it the Twins are done!

Sid, retire our go to a nursing home! You are like 2 hundred you old coot!
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

I could be wrong, but what matters here is what sells. Here we are reading another Randy Moss article. Why? He has a different opinion than 95% of the people out there. That sells. I liked the guy on that site that made the positive article on Eli after the draft. I am sure he got sufficient response to have warrented taking that tack.

All I know is the 2 best plays I have ever seen were Randy Moss's no look, behind the head flip to Moe Williams a couple years ago....and Cris Carters one handed backhand jumping grab that was only for like 15 yards, but it was the best catch I have ever seen. It never seems to make his highlight reels, but it was truly amazing, anybody remember that one? Also, he made a one hand grab while falling down to keep an underthrown ball from hitting the ground....dang Cris Carter could catch! I miss him about 20 times more than I miss Moss, but it would be nice to see #84 out there making plays...
