Should the Vikes go after Ricky Williams.

Should the Vikes try and trade for Ricky?

Ricky will not be the starting back for the Fins after he serves his 4 game suspension. The Fins will have to much money invested in Ronnie Brown after they sign him, and he will be getting the bulk of the carries and Ricky will only touch the ball about 8 to 10 times a game. Even though Ricky apologized to his teammates I would bet money there are players that are still pissed at him.

Miami will probably be willing to part with him for a mid level draft pick.

Because he sat out a year, he is only getting the Veterans minimum right now (his agent says they will work out the salary later, but they have no leverage). If we could sing him for 2 million, and he didn't work out you could always cut him.

The Vikes would probably have to pick up some of the signing bonus that Miami paid, but that would be negotiable.

If he would come in and truly wants to play, he could be the best back on the Vikes! After a year of rest maybe he could return to the 1,800 yard back that he was 3 years!

How much better would are offense be with C-Pep and Ricky of 3 years ago!

Bennett might be the starter but his injuries scare me, and he is a free agent at the end of the season. Maybe the year off is what Ricky needed, could be a huge plus if he was the same back he was a few years ago.

In my mind I would be willing to take the chance, see if we could steal a player that could put us in the Superbowl.

    In one word - no.

I don't think he can perform at the same level that he did before, and he is the biggest headache in the NFL. Randy Moss is a saint compared to Ricky Williams. Plus, we already have tons of RB's that are capable of doing well.

    Thanks PPE for the sig.

Once again someone joins the "The Vikings don't have enough running backs - let's get another one!" Club...

The only reason this is definately no is because of the depth at RB.

What happened last time we traded for a high profile running back who wore #34?

We have one back that had 1,300 yards 3 years ago and has been hurt since.
We have another back the is getting long in the tooth, and is best as a third down back.
We have a second year back that had 4 good games, but was hurt for the rest of the year.
We have a rookie that has not played a down in the NFL yet.

If I was a defensive coordinator that would not strike fear in my heart.

But Ricky Williams they would have to respect, and plan for.
