Re: Should Vikes Give Peterson a New Deal Now?

Since the Vikings currently enjoy the talents of the tailback who is poised to succeed L.T. as the best in the game, and possibly to become one of the best ever, the Vikings would be wise to ensure that Peterson at all times believes he is getting a fair shake in exchange for what he's bringing to the table.
Hey hey, let's not exaggerate now!!!
"possibly to become one of the best ever" sounds like it's almost granted.

He is not even starting to posture for another deal, because neither he nor the team think it needs discussed yet. Just another writer trying to stir things up or make an editor happy by turning anything he can think of.
After this season, it is logical to think that AD and the Vikes start negotiating and hopefully get a deal worked just prior to his third season. That is the normal time frame for players that have shown superstar potential in their first two-seasons out of college.

Also, if we give AD a new contract, than CT deserves a new one too.
In games when AD struggled, CT bailed him out (ie. the San Fran game, 2nd Chicago)
IMO, one wouldn't have done as well without the other.
    (well,
Chester would have had more yards, but you get what I mean.)
AD struggled when they put 8 - 9 men in the box, as AD was not a pass blocker.
CT did well because they expected a pass and if it was a run CT wasn't going to take it to the house like AD.

Whether AD was in or not telegraphed the play to the D.

Re: Should Vikes Give Peterson a New Deal Now?

If AD stays healthy all year, he acheives the 2000 yard mark, and the Vikes go deep into the playoffs because of his performance, then a new contract is a no brainer.
Vikes don't want to neglect their best asset.

Whereas GB giving Grant a new contract was foolish.
I doubt the guy even breaks 1000 this year.
We'll just have to see what happens tonight.
IMO, Bengals will shut Grant down, 3 yds or less per carry.

Re: Should Vikes Give Peterson a New Deal Now?

Contracts have become somewhat meaningless in todays NFL.

Players under contract still hold out for more money or demand to be traded all the time.

How did Favre's lifetime contract pan out?

Interesting article. IMO, I don't think we need to hash out the dough right now. Maybe we should consider it after this season. Still, the author has a point.
Well - it's 7am, so I'm not awake enough to remember all the details, but a BIG consideration in the NFL these days has to be what the effect of an uncapped year might be in 2010, 11, etc.
And with no stadium deal, it would be tough to do now.

(Sorry if that's incoherent....little man just woke up and I'm now back on duty)

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

After this year we should, because he's earned it. Plus, he hasn't even called out for a new deal. He knows it's coming tho.

    ALL DAY!!!
