Im glad he is staying IMO he is a good player, and has more than 2 years of good football left!

Thank goodness! He's getting up there in age and all, but I want to see him retire a Vike.

Good deal... If anything else, it will keep a experienced veteran presence for the young guys.. He may or may not finish next season as the starter, but the guys behind him will be better off having watched and learned form Darren Sharper..

He is a veteran and his leadership is needed.
His play will be limited because of the cover 2.
It's to be expected as is Fred Smoot's play.
he is a great man to man cover corner, at least he was, but his style is not complementary to the cover 2.
Just hope Tomlin stays as they will have 2 years to be in the system.

Smoot was out-played by Brian Williams in 2005 in Ted Cottrell's non-Cover 2 system and lost his starting job.
I don't think the Cover 2 can be blamed for Smoot's non-performance in 2006.

Did smoot lose his job in 05? I though B-Will was demoted to Nickle and remained there until the season ended.

Did smoot lose his job in 05? I though B-Will was demoted to Nickle and remained there until the season ended.

Smoot was injured at the end of the year and I think people generally thought that he was being replaced by B-will. I'm pretty sure B-will was nickel the entire year when Smoot was healthy.

If I remember right, Smoot was the starter, B-Will was at nickel but after the.. Carolina game (I think) Smoot went to nickel for the rest of the season.

That's what I recall happening, as well.
Plus, Smoot got hurt a bit and then was inactive for the season finale.

The final game Smoot snuck out of the hotel the night before the game (New Years eve) and went out and partied, he got busted coming back into the hotel the next morning and was inactive for the game.
