Thanks Anglo...thought you guys might enjoy this one. That's an interesting article - thanks for that Max. Makes sense and I can see the reasoning behind the pyramid. As pointed out though there are questions marks over three of the top four positions so we may the team to show just how true this pyramid applies.
On Pat Kirwan's SIRIUS NFL Radio show, he and the Seahawk's GM, Tim Ruskell, were talking about how the Giants success this year and several teams' playing the 3-4 have put this year's draft "upside down" with respect to the size/weight guidelines typical for the front 7.
Ruskell made the point, "if we followed the chart, we never would've drafted Lofa Tatupu."
The premium in today's game, according to them, is pass rush...and speed, interestingly, it is confirmed by the pyramid...
Also kinda interesting, how do these observations box with the sentiment, "in order to win, you must stop the run, and be able to run."
I think Ron Jaworski balances these observations most appropritely, in that, he agrees with the "stop the run, be able to run" mentality, however, scoring and explosive plays are attributed mostly to the passing game, an area the Vikes must improve (hence, the Berrian signing he points out).
That said, he goes further to by making sure he references that the Vikes, the Eagles and the Chargers, in particular, can create explosive plays in the running game.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent

Guess the pass rush and speed premium is coming about more as it is seen as the only way of disrupting the top flight teams such as Pats, Colts and Cowboys. Interesting that he marks Vikes, Eagles and Chargers down about having the potential for explosive running plays. Given that those teams are noted for their passing then if either can get that aspect sorted then they really could go to town this season."AngloVike" wrote:

Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...
