Those numbers are amazing. Where the hell did they come from? I don't care if it is preseason or the superbowl, 300 passing is sick. Wow. Lets hope we trade him and get some value in return.
One 71 yd TD came on an under-thrown pass to a wide open Marko Mitchell. Another 65 yd TD came on a pass to a wide open Garrett Mills.

That leaves 174 passing yds on 21 completions (9.3 YPC)

If you watched the game, you can understand the success. Again, it was against the 1-15 Rams, who had the 29th ranked defense last year & it was against their 2nd & 3rd stringers.

Not that I care, but Sage's first two series were against the first team defense for the Rams.

And in both those series, plus the following one we punted the ball.

I merely pointed out that last year the Vikings played Sage for most of the 1st game & TJ played the majority of the 2nd game. I think we are just seeing the same scenario play out until & if Favre shows up by the 3rd preseason game as he did last year as well.
You could be right on this one, and we'll see. But I seem to remember last year that the word out of camp was that Sage and Tarvaris were competing, and everyone was told before the first preseason game how the switch would work. That's just my memory though, and it could be off.

But this year everything I've heard has pointed to Tarvaris as the starter if Favre doesn't return. Also, the amount of time spent with the ones was more than just one drive last year, with Rosenfels playing into the second quarter and attempting 13 passes when he started the first preseason game (link). This year Rosenfels relieved Jackson with more than 9 minutes left in the first quarter.

So, while it's possible that scenario is happening again, that isn't my take based on what I've seen so far. I could be wrong or could have missed something though.

9 mil over three years, so if I do the math he's been paid 3 for last year and if traded isn't his new team paying out the remaining 6 mill over 2 years of his contract? That would make him a 3 mil waste wouldn't it? When it comes to wasting money that's spare change to the Raiders
That's is someone were to pick him up & agree to pay the remainder of his contract. For $6 mil, teams would more likely wait to see if he gets cut before offering up that kind of ching for a backup. There'd have to be an immediate need for a QB & I don't believe it exits yet.

Plus, I don't have a list, but I do believe there are several other QB options out there.
I'm not sure if anyone would trade for Sage or not, but I'm pretty sure the only part of the contract that was guaranteed was the signing bonus ($1.4 million, link). That would mean, unless I am mistaken and Sage has an unusual contract, that the $5.6 million due over the next two years is not guaranteed and the Vikings would save that money if they cut Sage.

I think Webb can make it on the practice squad. He was a 6th round pick for a reason. I don't think anyone is going to use one of there 53 spots on a guy that won't play based on pre-season garbage time.
I believe people said something similar about JD Booty & Tyler Thigpen. Both of whom are with different teams.
While I agree with the sentiment I want to point out that John David Booty ended up only on the practice squad of another team (Tennessee), and is now in camp with the Texans. I think there's a decent chance he makes that team as the 3rd QB because they have no one else. But he was a guy the Vikes were able to get on the practice squad because he was terrible.

Thigpen didn't make it though, and he was a 7th round pick that didn't have the athleticism that Webb does. It's not like his passing numbers in preseason garbage time were great either (link). I think there are probably a few teams that wouldn't mind having Webb as a developmental 3rd QB or a wildcat QB on their 53-man roster.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

    Re:Sage

Lol ... this thread became funny really quickly.

Lets clear one thing up ... this was NOTHING like the first preseason game last season. everyone is acting like Sage got the same treatment last season. But last season, Sage got the start in the first game (T-Jack got the start here) ... Sage played two series (10 points) and T-Jack proceeded to come in and play the rest of the first half and then start the second half and play all the way into the first series of the fourth quarter.

So, it is not like last season where Sage got more time in the first game, because T-Jack got more time in the first game than Sage did.

Don't know what is going on there, but claiming this game looked anything like the first game of preseason last season is flat our inaccurate. In both, the first game last season, and the first game this season, Sage looked REALLY good ... and in one case he got a lot of time and in the other, only two possessions.

There is no "controversy" here. Fact is, they gave Sage a chance to showcase himself, and no matter what you say about "who he played" and "it was preseason" he looked VERY good. If for some reason Favre does not come calling in the next week or so ... the next preseason game will be VERY interesting for both T-Jack and Rosenfels.

    Two brief comments:

    1) I give little respect for anything we did that was positive against the worst team in football during the preseason.
But I have significant worry about anything that team accomplished against us.

2)If this team's fate relies on a debate between Rosie and TJ; we are done. TJ is a wish, and Rosie is a prayer.

Preseason is about the rookies. Just watch them.

To point 1, I said that too at first. But isn't the first job in a game like is to put a whacking on that poor team? We did that. That's good.

Better then the old days of playing down to our competition. So I went from negative to a peek of positive there.

    I may be sick.

Am I missing something here? Sage tore it up tonight!

If anything I think buh bye Joe Webb, at least the practice squad.

I think Jackson might have to some more pressure behind him then expected.
Yes, you must be missing something. Sage did have a good game, 310 yards and 3 TD's in a game (rather 2 & 1/2 quarters), is very good. You have to remember though, it was against a teams that went 1-15 last year. Correction, it was against a 1-15 team's backups.
That is all fine and dandy, but I just checked profootballreference and it shows that Tarvaris Jackson has NEVER had a 300 yard passing game in his entire 4 year career and Sage didn't even play the whole game. So yes, it was not against the best team but how many times did Jackson face the Lions, who are perennially at the bottom and have never given up more than 205 when facing him.

Booty was a 5th round pick and did clear wavers to make the practice squad. He was released from the Vikings practice squad in 08, spend all of 09 on Titans practice squad and will be lucky to make the texans practice squad this year.

You are correct about thigpen though. I guess it's a risk you take. It's possible a rebuilding team would take a chance on Webb.

As a contender though I think the roster spot is too valuable to waste on someone that won't help this year.
