Running the 3-4 defense...
What do you guys think about running the 3-4 defense?
Now more than ever i think the vikes should run the 3-4....
Kevin Williams would move to a end(which in a 3-4 is inside the OT) Pat would be the Noseguard, and two people would still need to block him.. and Ray Edwards would the other end
As for the linebackers Greenway would still be a outside linebacker, EJ would still be in the middle, Leber would play the other MLB, and for the other outside linebacker we could draft a guy like Quentin Groves.. who would be perfect for the 3-4, and even if we didnt get Groves i still think even Robison could play that position, i mean he is fast enough and athletic enough to do so...
I think while running the 3-4 we would still have a very good run defense, and i think it would help us get pressure on the quarterback, which would then help are pass defense... I mean having 4 linebackers like we would have anyone of them can blitz and would have the ability to get to the quarterback...
I know if Kenechi was still able to play this year i dont think we would run it, but with him out i think its the perfect time to switch...
It's just a thought so tell what you guys think

Re: Running the 3-4 defense...
its easier said that done to change systems on defense
every player would need to learn a new role
i have never seen the cover 2 with a 3-4 team, so we would have to lose the cover 2, which is loved some much
and childress never has had experience with it, so i doubt this would ever happen
good thought though

I'm not a big fan of the 3-4... I say, if it ain't broke... don't fix it.
Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

Re: Running the 3-4 defense...
I dont think its the right time to start changing the defensive scheme, it would mean new coaches, new players, we would have to invest time to get to know the new defense.
Defensive scheme changes usually comes when a team hires a new coach or is stuck to rock bottom and need to make some changes.

Players who are not suited for 3-4.
CBs
Ends
Kevin Williams
OLBs
Sharper
Virtually Pat williams as NT, EJ and Greenway in the middle, Williams at FS and the rest of our team would need to be revamped.

is it because we are so great in pass coverage?? how about pressure on the qb?
I think something does need to be fixed, I'm not saying a 3-4 is the answer, but they need to think of something.
I was watching the Week 2 vikigns/lions game on NFLN, and even though they got lit up on the pass that game, some of the plays, the corners would play press coverage on the recievers.
It was those plays that a pass was broken up and the ends were able to pressure the qb.
The plays where the corners played off were the plays where they gave up a big gain.
Hopefully Chilly and Fraizer realize this and make a change for next year.

Re: Running the 3-4 defense...
I don't know if it's a good idea to switch to a basic 3-4 defense, but it could be nice to switch to it sometimes during a game just to confuse the offence a little

Our defense would kick ass if it could play the 3-4 as well as the 4-3
