Re: Roster Full Of Options At Fullback

D'Imperio had some good blocks last night.

I especially like the formation that had D'Imperio at FB, Toby at tail back and Shank and Rudolph at TE. That particular set has some serious beef in it and should really give defenses a pounding.

    Poor Tahi.

I kindof think that Toby is the new Tahi. For some reason everyone wants to lump Toby in as a 3rd down back and cause he isn't fiting into that mold they are hacking on him. Doesn't matter that he was never brought in to be a 3rd down back. He was brought in to be AD's backup.

Tahi was brought in to be a no necked knee bender. Everyone wanted him to be some sort of offensive threat. When he didn't fit into that mold they all started hating on him.

Watch, whatever FB they plug in (if the even do), people will hack on him because he isn't doing what they want him to do regardless of what the scheme calls for.
    Wrong. Tahi could not block.

Tahi imho, wasnt that great of blocker, thus the people hating on him
Yup, that's my only problem with Tahi, dude just wasn't a good FB, couldn't block.
I know that Tahi missed blocks. All FB's miss blocks it happens.

Heck, I rang up a Vid of a certain RB having a certain record setting year running and the FB made just as many whiffs as he did good blocks in an effort to find the "Devastating" blocks someone said he made.

Again, FB's just don't run around pancaking everyone on every play. Just doesn't happen.

Atleast in the manner that you think a FB should block. I know that I can go back into the Tahi thread and find several who changed their minds about Tahi after they actually watched him play.:P

Again, was he the greatest? Far from it but in all seriousness, when a team really doesn't use a FB why do you need one that is the greatest?

On a side note, if the FB's/H-backs keep catching the ball the way they have been, most on here that crave a FB to be used as a weapon might be happy this year.

Dnabb seems to have a desire to get the ball to any back (RB/FB/H-back) coming out of the backfield.

My manner of thinking is just fine. I stand by my comment. He is not very good at blocking. The end.

Got that. I don't think anyone disagrees with you on that point. Bigger point is, not many of them do anymore, mostly cause its a dead roster spot.

Exactly. What about McClain? There's still plenty of great FBS

Marty keeps bringing up things that he THINKS people said years ago. Which like I said was YEARS ago.. No one wanted Richardson to be a huge offensive threat. Just get what he did. Tahi couldn't. We pointed out we seriouslyyyyyyyyy downgraded. And said IFFFF he could ATLEAST BLOCK DECENTLY we wouldn't complain

So that turns into us saying we want an extra superstar at FB. Which was never the case

    Can you name them?

That poke is intended for only a couple of select posters my friend and does not apply to everyone.

I think my bigger point that I try to say, however, is that the FB position isn't what it used to be. Comments, as recently as from our new O-coord kindof backs that up.

Are there teams that still use a FB? Sure, but there aren't many any more. Another thing to look at is the draft and the FB position. I know if I was a kid playing collegiate ball, the last place I'd want to get slotted is at FB.
