    Re: Ring of Honor 2008

My guess/vote would be for John Randle.
I'm not sure how many games he may have lined up at DE, but right now I'm guessing he is the NFL's all-time sack leader at DT.
He played 11 seasons for the Vikings and as I recall, was let go in a salary cap move.
As an unheralded and undrafted free agent, he was a Pro Bowler and All-Pro seven times and had double digits in sacks nine times.
Chris Doleman had more career sacks, but spent five seasons away from Minnesota compared to Randle who played his last three in Seattle.

I think Steve Jordan would also get in before AC.
Jordan played his entire 13 year career with the Vikings, being named to the Pro Bowl 6 times to only 3 for AC.
Jordan only had 28 TDs, but his 12.7 ypc average is pretty darned good for a TE, higher than Tony Gonzalez' 12.1 and just behind Antonio Gates' 12.8.

For the uneducated (Namely me) what is the criteria.
Is it specific or just subjective?

I'd have to go with John Randle for this - he was a great pro on and off the field - plus he terrified the living pooh out of Favre which is ok in my book
    ;D

    Thanks my friend.
I couldn't read the link (Damn firewall probably) here at work so I will check it out when I get home.

Seems that there might be a chance no one gets inducted into the Ring this year as it sure doesn't appear that it happens every year.

It started in 1998, with six entries.
Most years are one, although 2000 had zero and 2001 had two.
So there is a chance that nobody gets in, but I think they are striving for one per year.

BTW thanks to jargomcfargo for adding Foreman to the list, since he was inducted last year.
Also, wasn't Warren Moon inducted in 2006?
That wasn't on the list from the Vikings page either...

I'm not sure about Moon. But we were there when Chuck Foreman was inducted. You and your dad were at that game.
I remember Chuck and his family getting out of the limo across from our tailgate spot that morning. He has a great family and is a fine human being who set a great example for others to follow. A true role model.
Fran was my favorite Vikings player. But Chuck was a close second.
I went to the can during the two minute warning so I wouldn't miss his half time induction. Bud and several members of his team were on hand. Browner and I think Eller and others were there.
Since Chuck won't have the numbers to make the HOF, this was obviously special to me as a fan.
I appreciate the excitement he brought to the Vikings during his era.
We were fortunate to have him on our team.
