The return of Onterrio Smith
We all know that Onterrio Smith will be returning to the Minnesota Vikings, at the beginning of the 2006-2007 NFL season.
Hopefully, he has finally learned his lesson from his previous drug use.
Now that we've signed Chestor Taylor, we have a lot of depth at running back.
1. Mewlede Moore
2. Michael Bennett( although he probably wont be with us anymore)
3. Moe Williams
4. Ciatrick Fason
5. Onterrio Smith
6. Chestor Taylor
I've always liked Onterrio Smith, the only thing that I think was holding him back, was his drug problem. If he comes back with a new attitude, I would love for him to be our starting running back. I've always thought that Onterrio Smith was our best running back. And assuming the Seahawks don't match the offer for Steve Hutchinson, Onterrio Smith is going to have a great offensive line to run behind. In my opinion, he could run for 1200-1400 yards next season, maybe more. I know some of you may be frustarted with Onterrio Smith, and I understand that. But I'm willing to give him another chance, and I'm behind him 100%
What are your thoughts on Onterrio Smith?
And now that we've signed Chestor Taylor, who do you think should be our starting running back at the start of the 06 season? In the P.J.'s, my blend tape plays, bullets are strays
Young bitches is grazed
Each block, is like a maze, full of black rats trapped
Plus the Island is packed
From what I hear in all the stories when my peoples come back, black

Re: The return of Onterrio Smith
If Onterrio comes to training camp and on the first day comes out and says
I am done with drugs, I have learned my lesson, and I will not do it again. I would give him a shot at the starting job between him, Taylor, and Fason (I really want him to be our feature back)
If he does nothing in any sorts I say screw him and have fun smoking weed.

Re: The return of Onterrio Smith
That list is a little off ... we are deep ... but we do not have Bennett or Moe Williams (they are both free agents) and have no intentions of signing either.
I think that Onterrio will definitely be in the mix with Taylor for the top spot and Mewelde and Fason will be battling for third-down/goaline duties as best.
Mewelde has to be real dejected right now. I would not be surprised if he is not a Viking next year either.
I project the depth chart to go 1. Taylor 2. Smith 3. Fason right now ... but a lot can change.

Vikings | Taylor the man at running back?
Sun, 12 Mar 2006 05:17:45 -0800
Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress sees newly signed RB Chester Taylor as a guy who can be his feature back. He perhaps could touch the ball "20 to 30 times" a game, according to Childress. "Chester is a complete running back, who is thrilled to be featured in a West Coast attack," Taylor's agent, Ken Sarnoff, said.

Re: The return of Onterrio Smith
I'd rather them battle for the spot, Rather than just give Chester the start. I think Smith will give hima run for his money very possible beat him out for the starting job.

People who have watched a fair share of all of these running backs play would probably say that Taylor is the best one. He does everything Mewelde does smoother and faster (and has the blocking ability to boot) ... Smith may be a better pure runner ... but is a serious risk.[quote="ultravikingfan"]Moore is our giuy.

Taylor has always averaged more than 4 yards a carry and had looked very good in an offense that has a tough time running sometimes against stacked boxes because of Kyle Boller. In the last two seasons he is averaging 19.5 carries and 85 yards per start (comes out to 1,360 yards over a full 16 games)
I thought for sure the Ravens were gonna re-sign Taylor and let Lewis go ... this is definitely to our benefit.
