Red McCombs

I think we need to give Red more credit than what he has been getting lately. He has been accused of being cheap and not caring about the Vikes. I think he has done a respectable job. How can he be cheap when he has spent the money on McKinnie's signing bonus, the long term contracts of Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper. A Cheap owner would have saved himself $100+ million dollars and let these guys walk. I can hear it now, "But last year he didnt get a top tier FA" That is true, but the Vikings werent exactlly a hot comodity after back to back 5 - 11 seasons.

Red took a beating from people on this board yesterday when the announcement of Winfield was posted. How can he be responsible for not signing a guy that hasnt even visited the club. Thanks to phone calls by Tice, Pep, and Moss, Antoine came for a visit. And when it came time to put up or shut up, Red put up...and put up some might big $$$$.

That all being said, Im not sold on having an owner that has no connections to a community besides a business. Id love to see a local owner like Taylor take over the team. But untill that happens, Red doesnt desrerve the cheap talk untill we get outbid by another team over a player this offseason...we should be able to win any bidding war with any team. And if he does screw us over, I like user "hovan"'s idea of hunting him down and tarring and feathering him[:D]
