Recent history show path to Super Bowl
What do the winners of the past six Super Bowls have in common ? What do 10 of the last 12 teams to appear in Super Bowl have in common ? They all play in stadiums less than 10 years old. Coincidence ? I think not . NE Patriots built new stadium in 02 win Super Bowl in 02,04, & 05.Tampa Bay laughingstock of league for years built stadium in 98, SB winner in 03.Baltimore Ravens, bad for years build stadium in 98 get SB in 2001. St Louis Rams ugly for years, get stadium in 95 , win Super bowl in 2000 and appear in SB in 2002. Philadelphia , stadium in 03 make SB in 05 and Tenn. gets stadium in 99 make SB in 2000. Look at playoffs this year Cinci. , Seattle, and Chicago all previously bad , all in new stadiums and contending. In fact all of playoff teams with the exception of Colts (who have new stadium deal in hand) are playing in new stadiums except Giants. Sure their are exceptions like Houston and Detroit but that 5-7 year new stadium = playoff window is still open. Sure the Vikings could use a new OC and DC , new coach, great draft etc but if recent history is any indication to be a perennial contender you must have that revenue stream a new stadium will give you.

Re: Recent history show path to Super Bowl
what about the lions :???: A new stadium would be nice, no doubt. An outdoor one would be great, but the vikes are not known for playing well outdoors. Whatever helps.
I Love Kerry Collins (and John Rocker).

Re: Recent history show path to Super Bowl
I don't think it is neccesarily the new stadium, but a team that gets a new stadiu, must have or create certain things that are needed for success. New stadiums are a sign of a dedicated Front Office spending good money to ensure the team gets better. That means not only good players but also great coaches who draft and train young players into superstars. Tampa Bay, St. Louis, and Cincinatti are great examples of the franchise using money well and make moves that benefit the team.
New stadiums also broaden the fan base and make home advantage a reality. Of course, winning is the key to securing fans."I hate when threads are destroyed by facts and logic."

Re: Recent history show path to Super Bowl
Look how many teams have a new stadium and have not done squat?
New stadiums do not equal a Super Bowl team; would be nice though!

Besides, its the uniforms that made them winners! Denver, Tampa, New England and even Cleveland (via baltimore) all had new uni's when they won their first SB! LOL
