Ready, or not? Jackson acting like a starting QB for Vikings

By all accounts, Jackson has done all the right things, even though he still must prove he's ready for to be a starting quarterback. He sought Peyton Manning for advice about playing the position last week, a brief conversation arranged by defensive coordinator and former Indianapolis assistant Leslie Frazier.

Tarvaris Jackson asked new Vikings defensive coordinator and former Indianapolis assistant coach Leslie Frazier last spring about getting in touch with the Colts' Peyton Manning. The two quarterbacks finally hooked up for a 15-minute phone discussion in the past few days.

Found this tidbit at the end of the article...
The Vikings had talked about bringing in former Jaguars safety and special teams standout Nick Sorensen for a workout, but Childress indicated that wasn't going to happen.

I just hope none of the 15 minutes had anything to do with doing goofy commercials.

That is really good news. This kid really wants to be an elite QB. Good for him and us. I am looking forward to watching him develop and take us to the promise land.

Manning started as rookie in 1998 for a Colts team that went 3-13 and then rebounded to go 13-3 the following season.
    Very interesting.
I'd completely forgotten about Peytons struggles.
I seem to always use a certain Dallas Cowboy QB who went 1-15 in 1989 as my example.

I have to remember to keep him in mind.

Manning gave Tarvaris some good advice, play it safe, but don't be scared, throw it to recievers downfield if they are open, don't check down unless they are covered. Brad couldn't get the ball downfield effectively last year, and T-Jack is gonna find those open windows and make them throws.

3-13? Is that where we are headed? I would like to think we have more talent than that Colts team.

Anyways, fact is this league is all about the QB when it comes to leadership. The QB will be the face of the team and the QB will be accountable for wins and losses. This is why a QB has to make his teammates believers, and try to exert himself as a leader. Unless a QB makes it HIS team, the team usually does not go far.

I don't neccesarily agree with that but it is a pattern you see in playoff contenders and super bowl winners. Are there exceptions? Of Course, but in the long run I would like TJ to be more than a Dilfer. The fact he is running a WCO means that must be the case if we are to win the big one.

Right now TJ is just developing skills to be a solid NFL QB, but I hope to see some leadership qualities sooner rather than later.
