Re: question
Hey I hate to nit pick, but how about coming up with a more descriptive subject than "question". It makes it easier for people to navigate these boards and find information they are interested in. Maybe you could have called it "Meaning of Skol" or something like that.

Re: question
I didn't really think of that, but it's true. Titles are there for a reason.

Re: question
True definition of the scandanavian word is to use it as a Verb and it means 'to drink something, especially beer, all at once without a pause'
Skol VikesRemember pillage THEN burn!

Re: question
skoal
skol
exclamation
1. Hail!; a loud friendly toast before drinking.
Etymology: 16c: from Norwegian skaal a bowl.
So when you're saying Skol Vikes! You're actaully saying hail to the Vikings! Or we salute you!

Re: question
Well actually there Normy,
The original word comes from the Latin meaning "skull"
You see there Normy the Vikings would kill people in villages and at the end of battle the leader of the Vikings would be brought the head of the conquered towns Master/King or The Leading vote getter.
The head would be boiled and peeled clean. Then the victorious Viking leader would drink from the skull of the defeated.
Raise the head and drink to his comrades in arms.
Proclaiming SKOL!!!!! or as we might say here in the ole U.S. of A
CHEERS!
Yours truly,
Cliff Clavin
And that is the Gods truth Normy..............
