You may be right, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I understand that there are rarely great quarterbacks available.
But when the biggest question mark on your team is QB, and if money is not an object, than why not go out and bring in somebody who has at least had some success in running an offense, even if they are perceived as expensive or require us to give something up.
I don't wan't to see 3 minimum wage guys running our offense, this does not build confidence that we are tyring to put the best team on the field.
You can't tell me that Bollinger and Holcombe were the best options available to us regardless of the price.

I would rather see them spend on guys with some risk (like Brees) and fail, then to simply say he is too expensive.
It may be the wrong decision, but it is not letting money lower your chances of success.
We have a big cap space and a losing team, we can afford a few high price gambles that have the potential for large rewards.

I think it is pretty clear right now, that we are pretty shaky at QB, lets see what we get going into next year.
I would not be surprised to see the same 3 qb's suiting up for us in '08 and a lot of the same rationale given as to why we didn't sign anyone.
Sure hope TJ gets good quick.
I think you could very well be right on that last point if TJ shows anything in the second half of the season.
I know a lot of people are acting like Derek Anderson will be available, and if he is I'm not so sure we don't go after him if he still looks this good in 8 weeks.
But because Brady Quinn fell to the 22 spot, the Browns can probably afford to both extend Anderson and keep Quinn.

But as for the reason for not going after a guy if you're not worried about the cash, the reason is the salary cap.
I think that applies for Brees (and add in that we thought Brad was okay), because he was looking for about $10 million/year with a lot of guarantees.
That kind of commitment can hurt your ability to bring in other players if he doesn't work out.
Compare that to Garcia, who signed a two-year, $7 million contract.
Even if he doesn't work out, who cares?
How did he get such a bad contract, anyway?
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

Interesting to see who the main starters were by pass completion over the course of the franchise's history.
There were a couple stints where the Vikings had a consistent starter.
It's interesting that the year we had the most prolific starter of all time it was a one-year wonder (in terms of longevity with the Vikings).
Obviously in flux now, need a QB that can be plugged in for multiple years.
I'm not sure if it will be Tarvaris, at this point nobody knows.
The quarterback carousel era is, hopefully, temporarily upon us.

that is a very nice post, thanks for the history lesson
;D, but from what i see even with a steady QB the vikings never came through to win the superbowl..... hell the last time you guys were in the superbowl was in what 1975???? also since 1983 the vikings have been juggling around QB's the only two that i see that stayed longer then 4 years is tommy kramer and daunte culpepper, i'm mean seriously how do you expect a team to win if they can't even mold them into what they want before they keep getting rid of them.

i may be wrong but i think bj was there a couple years atleast before he started. other than that they were either guys near the end of their careers (moon, george, cunningham, johnson pt.2) or just plain sucked (salsbury, mcmahon) or guys got injured as in the case of gannon and culpepper

VikesFan787, Thanks for the awesome sig!

The information is from here (forgot to post it):

    http://www.jt-sw.com/football/pro/rosters.nsf/

Didn't include every QB on the roster every yr, just the QBs that tossed for a 'significant' amount of completions using no criteria other than a quick glance.
