    QB 'Comfortable' With Offense

The Vikings begin a weekend minicamp Friday, but quarterback Brad Johnson has been in town working with new coach Brad Childress' offense for three weeks.

"I'm very comfortable with the offense," Johnson said. "I ran a version of it in Tampa."

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2001-03, Johnson set a team record by passing for more than 3,000 yards in each season, and in 2002 he led the Bucs to the Super Bowl XXXVII championship.

"This is my fifth system in 14 years, and the differences pretty much are just terminology," Johnson said.

Childress runs the so-called West Coast offense.

"That's just a term," Johnson said. "It's really called the 'Canadian Border' offense. What you'll see of it is what you want to see. The biggest thing for me right now is building relationships with the coach and offensive coordinator, knowing what they like. It's about concepts as much as anything."

I like the fact that he's been working with Childress for the past 3 weeks already.

Sounds to me, like this guy some are calling old, has a fire still burning inside.

This is some good news for sure.

I will say it again. With the new line and a full time running back BJ is going to have a great year.

I agree Ned, the fact that he has put in this much time learning the system all ready says a lot about Brad.

I like what he said about the name of the Offense. This is anything but "West Coast."

Canadian Border Offense will be what I refer to Childress's playbook from now on.

I don't care about anyone's feelings toward BJ, he is a class act, and a true team first player. I know some here like Culpepper, but he is not even in the same league as BJ as far as football smarts, and being a leader goes. I feel good about his chances as our starter with this new offense. He won a SB in this offense, who is to say he can't do it again?
