Sid Hartman: Expect Vikings to look for more quarterback help
Tarvaris Jackson ended his consistently inconsistent year with a typical outing -- two impressive touchdown drives and then a fumble to lose the game.
http://www.startribune.com/sports/12929926.html
The Vikings were trailing the Broncos 19-3 early in the fourth quarter Sunday when, according to Fox's Sam Rosen, coach Brad Childress walked up to the offensive team on the bench and said the momentum was going to swing back.

Well, the momentum did swing back. Tarvaris Jackson led two touchdown drives and was involved in two two-point conversions, tying the score. His best performance of the year came on those two drives, when he completed seven of 10 passes for 91 yards and also scrambled once for 32 yards.

But unfortunately for Jackson, the quarterback's fumble after the Vikings won the coin toss in overtime led to an easy 30-yard field goal by Mr. Accuracy, Jason Elam, to give the home team a 22-19 victory.

Those two touchdown drives might have impressed Vice President of Player Personnel Rick Spielman and Childress, who are trying to evaluate whether Jackson is qualified to remain as Vikings quarterback for the years to come.

However, you must take into consideration that Jackson was going against one of the NFL's lesser defenses in Denver, a team that had lost four of five, giving up an average of 31.3 points in those losses. The Broncos gave up at least 30 points six times this season...

AD offers no excuse for feeble finish
After a stellar start to his rookie season, Adrian Peterson put forth very ordinary performances during the Vikings' final four games.
http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/12930076.html
Adrian Peterson is certain to earn all types of postseason rookie awards. The running back already has a starting spot on the NFC Pro Bowl team.

But if the seventh overall pick in last April's draft needs any motivation during the offseason, all he needs to do is look back to the final four games of his first NFL season. Peterson completed that stretch by rushing for only 36 yards on 11 carries in the Vikings' 22-19 overtime loss to Denver on Sunday at Invesco Field.

He also did not see the field on the Vikings' 10-play opening drive. Vikings coach Brad Childress said Peterson was disciplined because he was late for a team bus; Peterson said he was late for a team function. Whatever the case, Chester Taylor (seven plays) and Mewelde Moore (three plays) were used instead of the Vikings' top offensive threat.

Patrick Reusse: Vikings both quit and come back
http://www.startribune.com/sports/12929766.html
Sunday's game made no sense, and it served as the final act in a season that made no sense.

The Vikings came out with a physical superiority that had the Denver Broncos in retreat throughout the first period. The Vikings followed with two quarters of play so miserable and indifferent that it was going to renew questions about coach Brad Childress' ability to inspire a locker room full of pro athletes.

And then, a moment before sportswriters started reaching for a Roget's to find nastier words than "pathetic" -- to describe both the Vikings' effort and Tarvaris Jackson's performance -- there was an astounding comeback created almost exclusively by Jackson's dynamic play...

Rocky Mountain Sigh:Overtime fumble Spoils Comeback
http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/12928372.html

Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson led a fourth-quarter comeback, then fumbled the ball away in overtime. The game was a must-win, but the Vikings were going to miss the playoffs anyway as Washington won handily.

Jackson says he merits job as starter; Childress to wait

http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/12930346.html

DENVER - Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson once again juxtaposed his potential and limitations in Sunday's 22-19 loss at Denver, leaving coach Brad Childress facing another round of questions about his long-term intention for the position.

While there are indications he wants to make Jackson his likely starter in 2008, Childress refused to address the issue, reiterating that he plans to discuss it with the coaching and personnel departments.

"I'm not going to answer that question standing here with the emotions that flow at the end of the game," Childress said.

So punishes the player how exactly Childress?
I bet the Broncos couldn't believe thier luck seeing the
NFC's top rusher being held away from them.
If you want to discipline a player then fine them, have them do extra laps etc etc but kep them out of a game that is a must-win?
yeah real smart.

Frustrated, receiver Rice says he wanted to play

Vikings wide receiver Sidney Rice usually is very good about keeping to the company line. But after being inactive in the Vikings' 22-19 loss Sunday in Denver because of an ankle injury, the rookie expressed frustration.

Rice said he felt he was at "97 percent" and was confident what he showed the training staff in a pregame workout would get him on the field.

"I don't know what they thought I felt, but I felt like I was ready to go," said Rice, who had a team-leading four touchdown catches and was third with 31 receptions this season. "It seemed to me like they had already made their decision..."
