Thread: Ponder Showed Enough

I just keep wondering how wonderful Viking land would be if instead of this reach:
With the 12th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State
We had made this reach instead:
With the 12th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select Colin Kaepernick, QB, Nevada
I know it is unfair to Ponder to compare, it is not his fault the Vikes fucked up ... but it is our fault if we stick with him much longer.
Here is to hoping Ponder proves me wrong in the next couple of weeks ... but I don't think he will.

1) Leaf was thought to be as good as Manning entering the draft. In fact, the big debate was who Indy was going to select first, Manning or Leaf. Ponder was never considered to be that strong of a QB entering the draft, so while he may be a bust, he can never be as big of a bust because expectations were never as high.
2) San Diego traded its third overall pick, a future first round pick, a second round pick, and three-time Pro Bowler Eric Metcalf to the Arizona Cardinals to move up one spot to the second overall pick and get Leaf. Ponder was drafted at #12 overall, with no trades. The Vikings did not pay anywhere near the price for Ponder that San Diego did for Leaf.
Ponder=Ponder. That is it. Trying to compare him to arguably one of the worst busts in NFL history is going off the deep end more than a little bit.Zeus wrote:
When are you going to realize that picking out the 20 bad throws this year and ignoring the 300 good ones does not make your point?
