Police ask Vikings to pay security tab

Police ask Vikings to pay security tab

Every time the Vikings play at the Metrodome, it costs the city of Minneapolis $25,200 to provide extra security......

Here's a thought.....Don't send a S.W.A.T team to the dome.

I wonder if the added security is something the Vikings requested or if the city just does it. It wouldn't seem fair to charge them for services they didn't request.

Furthermore, with the Vikings leasing the dome & not being the owners of it, shouldn't the onus fall into the lap of the Minnesota Metropolitan Sports Commision.

What about when the Twins played? Was there added security then as well?

Not unreasonable i suppose.
It says in the article they beefed up security since 9/11.
I'd have to think, if someone were to bomb a major sporting event like a football game, I highly doubt they'd choose a Vikings Game.
a) it's one of the smaller stadiums
b) its not a large-market area- Rather small compared to New York or SF.
c)not one of the more popular teams.
I'd say some of it is probably overkill.

The cost will eventually get picked up by either the fans (ticket/concession prices) or the citizens (increased taxes).

I wonder if other NFL teams are paying for the added police protection?
I honestly think that it is the city;s responsibility to provided appropriate police presence for high profile events, but if other NFL teams are paying for it I could live with it.

I wonder if this will affect Wilf's desire to build a stadium in downtown minny.
I bet the MFSC will want to get involved in this.

Not practical as McKinnie will be needed on the field when the offense is out there... imagine when we play the Bengals at the Dome, Cincy would be lucky if they could put out a team
;D

I would guess that the smaller crowd and the conditions surrounding baseball would warrant less police presence at the Twins games.
LOL, the twins aren't a part of a violent aggressive sport.
This is what I was talking about with the McKinnie thing.

Make the dome pay for it.
