Peterson to return kicks for Vikings?
Let's see if he has gotten any better since returning kicks in 2007! I'd be huge if AD could take one to the house, but Leslie probably won't let him.Peterson said Wednesday he'll suggest to Minnesota Vikings coaches that he should get on the field-goal block team and return kickoffs Saturday night in an NFC wild-card matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

No way. This would be a terrible idea, in my opinion. Marcus Sherels has been doing just fine with returning punts/kick-offs and got us in decent field position last Sunday. I feel Peterson just needs to stick with one thing and doing it exceptionally well: being the best running back in the NFL. Having Peterson return kick-offs and/or punts does nothing to help our team win if he gets injured fielding on a return. I'm against this idea. Have him simply do what he's good at.

Shouldn't happen and won't happen...I love Peterson's attitude though.
Skol Vikings! Go Cubs!

Didn't Frazier bust his knee and end his career returning a kickoff? Yeah, good luck getting him to approve this.
Besides, Peterson just commented that he would like to do it... it's never going to happen
(EDIT - Frazier was returning a punt, not a kickoff)Last edited by C Mac D; 01-03-2013 at 09:55 AM.

Kick off teams are often made up of guys that play only 6 or 7 plays a game. Their only real job on the team is to blow up the ball carrier on returns. I dont want "that guy" taking his shot at AP. My one exception to this might be if we are behind with less than 2 minutes in the game and need one exceptional play to give us a chance to tie or win a ball game. (Remember that Soldier Field game 3 or 4 years ago)
I'd much rather see the Packers miss the playoffs because of their talent then because of their injuries.

Excellent pull. I don't think people realize how good a cornerback Frazier was and his career was gone in an instant because of this.
I think it would be absolute lunacy to put AD out there on a kickoff return outside of a very late game situation or something (i.e. vs. Chicago his rookie year, Moss vs. K.C. in his second year). To be the guy who runs out there at the beginning of the game doesn't make sense.
On a side note ... it completely sucks that we don't have Harvin out there able to do this. We would be such a more serious threat to the entire NFC with that guy on the field.

That was the Oct 07 game when Peterson had a 53 yard kick return to the Bears 38, it was 31-31 and Longwell kicked the game winner
