Percy Harvin's run at the Rookie of the Year

Considering the fact that Percy Harvin is mainly used as a wide receiver, the odds are against the speedy Percy Harvin. The AP "Rookie of the Year"-award has not been awarded to a wide receiver since Cardinals' Anquan Boldin won it in year 2003.

Before Boldin, Randy Moss was the last wide receiver to receive the award in 1998.

As I'm looking at the list of all the previous Rookie of the Year-winners (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa...the_Year_Award)
I notice that a Rookie of the Year wide receiver only comes around every 5th or 6th year. Guess what!? The award was last won by a receiver five years ago

Not only is Percy Harvin a great wide receiver, but he is also an explosive runner with the ball in various situation. He is dangerous coming out of the backfield, running reverses, or fielding kicks.
This versatility will definitely help Percy Harvin in the running of becoming the Rookie of the Year in 2009.

UPDATED: Percy Harvin's statistics after week 13 (Source: NFL)

    Receptions: 48 - Leading rookies.
Receiving yards: 681 - Leading rookies.
Receiving TD: 6 - Leading rookies.
First down receptions: 37 - Leading rookies. (second place has 29)
Receptions over 20 yards: 12 - Leading rookies.

Yards per rush with at least 10 attempts: 8.7 - Leading NFL.
First down percentage on runs with at least 2 attempts: 53.8 % (on 13 attempts) - Leading NFL.

Kick return average with at least 32 attempts: 29 - Leading NFL.
Kick return TD: 2 - Leading NFL.
Kick returns over 40 yards: 5 - Leading NFL.

To sum it up, Percy Harvin is...
... the best rookie wide receiver, statisticly speaking
... the best NFL kick returner, statisticly speaking.
... the best NFL player on reverses, statisticly speaking.

He'll have to start putting up much bigger stats if he wants to be considered for OROY.
Right now, Sanchez has to be the clear favorite.
QB on a winning team will get the nod over anything but a herculean effort by someone else.

Unless Sanchez starts to stink it up, pH is going to have a difficult time beating a QB.

    Let's go pH!

    Dirty Sanchez stinks!

I expect Nicks and Britt to pass him eventually. We don't pass enough and both those guys looked to be prime time target for their teams.

Percy "Oh Mercy" has no chance unfortunately.

    Oh well.
We still have what looks like a star on our team.

Percy Harvin is nominated for the Rookie of the Week for the second straight week.
He might not have the big numbers yet, but if he can deliver consistently week in and week out, I will be more than happy.

if dirty sanchez starts to stink it up and PH still plays consistent and we get into the playoffs, then i think hell be a strong choice. weather we admit to it or not he is a good amount of our offense.

If he keeps it up over the whole season, he'd end up with

64 receptions, 616 yards, 16 TD 32 rush, 288 yards.... I'd take that any day.
