We are no longer under the Red Era. Pat is the type of player we need to keep around no matter what the cost. It's only for a few years and its affordable if you consider his play on the field. Losing him would be a huge loss, and if he is saying he wants to stay, it is up to the organization to make it happen.
I agree, with the exception of the words, "no matter what the cost."
I'm not sure if the Vikes can absorb another Kevin Williams type of contract at the DT position.
Capologists are much more qualified than me to answer that question, and, I'm not sure if he would demand, or even warrant, KW type of money.
There is no question that his play is a critical component to this defense' progress and that he is a tremendous Team player.
I hope they are able to figure this one out.
I'm sure those of you that watched the Bears vs Vikes Replay recently picked up the similarities between Henry Thomas and John Randle and KW and PW, two Pro-Bowl DTs is an amazing luxury to build a defense around; unfortunately, we were unable to keep Hank, hopefully, history does not repeat itself.

    We all
know that agents use these type bargaining ploys more often than not.
Alot of them have law degrees which means if their lips are moving then they are lying.
I may eat crow on this, but I am sure one of you will give me the recipe.
    No, I already have it.
Big Pat will be back in 2008.
I believe that with all my heart.

The quote I liked from this article is this.
Williams is tired of change. He said he and teammates initially were intimidated to speak to Childress last season but that the coach's door is "wide open" now.

"The door was open last season," Williams said, "but no one would go up there. Now, if you got a problem, you can talk to him about anything. He'll be straight up, and you can tell him how you feel."
Pat is going to retire a Viking IMO.

Lots of smoke being thrown out there lately about Pat.....

If he has another solid season this year, he won't be going anywhere.
I believe he will get his contract he's looking for, right here in MN.....

Again, alot of money for a 1 dimensional player who is getting old, declining in production and has to come out when we are in passing situations.

    Lets be real here.
I would have to disagree with Mr. Over about his play diminishing much.
He makes a good point about "skill position" players but I think that 300lbs is gonna have a major
effect on his legs sometime soon and weight could be more of a struggle for him to control.
PW has shown motivation this year to come into camp healthy though.
In the end this year will be the deciding factor.

Mr 'Dro, Chili and co. inhereted a 1 dimensional NT so I think the decision to keep Williams is gonna come down to how well he fits the scheme.
Aparrently Frazier has more blitzes planned so it's a likely possibility PW could fit this scheme very well, freeing up LBs.
From the looks of the teams moves that seems not to be the case though.

Just like everybody else I would like to see Pat return but thats the organizations call.
Winona the last thing they need is the fans telling them who stays and who goes.

Sure makes you hope Chili and the D-line coach can develop Green.

I don't believe in ever getting rid of a star unless you have somebody in line to replace him, and we have nobody who could replace Pat next year.

He may not warrant KW money, but I think he deserves more money than the average aging player because he is still so valuable.

If anything sign him for one year and draft DT 1st round next year. Then at least we have a plan.

It's the NON-lawyer agents who are the ones that screw things up...because they don't know what the fuck they are doing!
