This agent screwed up big time in my estimation. Pat at 35 still has a year to go on his contract. Why would the Vikings or any other team think he is worth the new prevailing wage for defensive linemen until he shows what he can do this season.
Don't get me wrong. I love what he can do for the Vikings. But when you start talking business, it's a whole different story.
Now he has to perform very well under less than cordial circumstances to get what his agent thinks he is worth. And I doubt the Vikings, who are the most likely team to sign him, will want to deal with his agent.
What was all that off season talk between Childress and Pat this off season?
His agent made a big mistake. He tried to hold the Vikings hostage and it didn't work.
How will the Vikings deal with anyone else he represents?
    Sorry to see Pat go.
Maybe we will get some sacks!
    Good stuff.

I have to agree, as much as I like Phat (Slimmed down) Pat, that is alot of money for a 1 dimensional DT.
If he would have collapsed the middle pushing the QB out of the pocket a bit more last year maybe his agent would have had better leverage.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

he will be 35 in October so he is not really young anymore. How long do people expect him to play?

I don't know, but I'd be awfully cautious about signing him to a four year deal.
    Can't blame the Vikings there.

You can bet if the Vikes have a good season and look like a "winner" next year he'll be back.

signing a contract until he is 39? that would be beyond stupid.

Yep...Especially given his struggles with maintaining his weight.
It is going to get harder and harder to perform if he puts back on the pounds as aging effects set in.

I don't know why his agent thinks the guy is going to play at such a high level another 4 years, thats just silly IMO.
Hate to see him go, but giving him a 4 year deal is beyond a legitimate request at the age of 35.
We'll see how this works out, but can't we franchise his ass?

Despite my previous post I hope that is the case! I'm a huge fan. I just think his agent diminished his possibilities.

Aside: I see people refer to you as old here sometimes.
I saw your picture standing next to Cajun once.
I'm so old I make you look like a pup!

Enjoy your posts(except Rice signs).Keep up the good work.

I think they're taking the safe road too...If he's looking even better with his slimmer weight, they'll make it happen during the season.
I'd hate to see him hurt or moving on.
That agent is pissed now, but really, it is still up to Pat to decide if he wants to play in MN, like he's said before.
    Stupid greedy agents... :

Sometimes I think they really pressure the players into doing things they wouldn't normally do...
I guess that is part of their job, ensure they get the big bucks.
However as Daunte has proven every time he comes up with a thought these players do need agents.

As for Pat they'll lock him up during the season if they decide they want him around by giving him a good deal just as they've done last year.
