Re: Packers: how to beat them

I think the Vikes need to blitz early and often.
I do have a slight problem with the blitz when we use it.
I watch other teams and it seems like they often get someone coming in unblocked when they blitz.
We seem to send all of our guys in the same area, and they all get bunched together and noone ever gets through unblocked.

Play cover 2 and wait for favre to get antsy and wing it at us. Throw some zone blitz's in to confuse him.

    I question that analysis.
Against Atlanta and Detroit, when we blitzed we had great penetration - especially when EJ or Winfield was the extra man.
KC we didn't blitz nearly as often, and when we did LJ did a good job of picking them up,so it is tough to say.
I am curious at to what makes you say that nobody gets through on blitzes.

As far as other teams getting in on us, I think AP has a little to learn about picking up the blitz.
If CT is back against the pack, we should be better in this regard.

You are correct Paul, we did get good penetration the first two games.
Kansas City must have done a better job of picking it up.
But, I still have not seen anyone come in clean on the quarterback.
    Not in all 3 games.
Maybe I had to many beers to drink and missed it, but I thought I seen every play.

Re: Packers: how to beat them

I think you blitz just enough that they keep em guessing, most of the time though you need to get pressure with your front four. They need to disguis defenses and play alot of man to man because favre will destroy a zone. The best way to stop favre is to get a lead, once a team does that favre will try to force some of his throws and that is when the defense can make some big plays.

My thought is that we don't match up well because our defense forces teams to pass all game and that is exactly what the Packers like to do. Also they have a pretty solid run d of there own (stopped LT) so the vikes are going to have to rely on the passing game more than usual.

    My Prediction.......

    Vikes 13 Packers 10

Kevin Williams has gotten in the back field pretty darn quick a couple of times, but I think he just beats the block.

    He is a monster.
I don't think they would forget to block him.
But he is capable of beating his man on every play.

I am looking forward to seeing the "Packers Suck - Favre Swallows" T-shirts again...
Haha my dad bought one of those 2 years ago at the game. The best part is we're walking out of the stadium after the last second 56 yarder and some disgruntled packer fan woman comes up to my dad and says "how do you know he swallows?". My mom without missing a beat turned to her and said "didn't you see? He was on his knees half the game".

Anyways.. as many have mentioned, the pack are going to be tough to beat... We blitz, they burn us over the middle. We don't blitz, they have all day to throw and Favre is going to eventually find someone who's open. I honestly don't know what the hell we're going to throw at them.. that's why I'm not the defensive coordinator.
