With ownership comes headaches

With ownership comes headaches
Even if Zygi Wilf wants his Vikings to behave themselves off the field, the Koren Robinson incident will show him the strength of the players union.
Sid Hartman, Star Tribune

Vikings owner Zygi Wilf stood up in front of his football team following the infamous Lake Minnetonka boat incident last season and lectured the players. He told them that any of that type of conduct would not be tolerated as long as he owned the team.

There were a couple of other incidents since Wilf bought the team that upset him, and again he made it clear that players who did these things were not going to be members of the team.

Now Wilf must deal with wide receiver Koren Robinson, who was arrested Tuesday night in Mankato after speeding more than 100 miles per hour and charged Wednesday with fleeing in a motor vehicle, drunken driving and other misdemeanors.

Well, Wilf is going to learn that the NFL Players Association is a strong union, and a player almost has to commit murder for a team to release them.

Robinson, who was sought by other teams despite his history of alcohol-related problems before signing with the Vikings last September, has a guaranteed three-year, $5.5 million contract, one that will be difficult to void unless the NFL rules that Robinson's multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy nullify the deal. Wilf will learn that if he wants to win, he will need players with problems such as Robinson because they can play.

Yes, Wilf will find that owning a football team is a lot different that building townhouses, apartments and shopping centers.

I am pretty sure that the Vikings had clauses added to Koren's contract encase he started to have problems again, let's not forget that Wilf has had the team for only 1 year and the new coaching staff have been in place for 6 months.

The new coaches couldn't come in and let all previous regime's players go and start from scratch, after this season is over we will see some players let go or not resigned that will surprise everybody!
This is a work in progress and the weeding out of players that don't fit Childress's system or the new Viking's idea of what they want is ongoing and will be for at least another year.

Some people are going to be upset by it, and others are going to be happy about it.
But it will probably catch us all by surprise when some players are let go.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.
