Is Opening In Green Bay a Good Thing for the Vikings?

Yesterday, as mentioned on this very site, it was announced that the Beloved Purple would spend the first week of their 2008 season travelling to Green Bay to take on the Packers.
Some people like the idea of playing Green Bay early on. . .some others, like Pacifist Viking aren't quite so keen on it......

    Like I mentioned before;

Chances are good that McKinnie won't be playing in this one due to serving a suspension.

That means we'll either have Hicks at LT covering T-Jack's blindside, Chase Johnson who has never saw action in a regular season game or some other newb having his first NFL debut.

Either way, it won't be good from that perspective.

Without a veteran LT out there the Packers will be blitzing from that side repeatedly. Mark my words.

The only thing we really don't know is how Rodgers will fare in the cold weather at GB on the frozen tundra. So at the moment I'm happy to open up there when the weather is a lot better and going to help us that more.
Course it doesn't mean that Rodgers won't be a problem to us or to dismiss him but at least the weather shouldn't be a factor working against us this season.

Yes, if for no other reason than the fact that we won't have to play on the frozen tundra in DEC.

Another things that will contribute to a victory:

    a. We will have a 100% healthy team(Barring any pre-season injuries).
    b. The staff will have the whole pre-season to put in the game plan.

But it would be better for us because we love to run and stop the run...which is great in the cold

My assumption is he (Hoping it is Baker) will be healthy and will be better than Big Mac.
    ;D

Seriously though, the whole Mckinnie thing just pisses me off to no end but if you really think about it, they will just have to help out with a TE on that side like they did alot last year with McKinnie in there.

A couple of things going for us.....

    a.
The rest of the guys will have played together and should be better in thier roles.
    b.
Hutch will line up next to the guy.
I could think of no better Gaurd than him to help out.
    c.
They have a butt load of TE's on the roster so it is feasable that they will put a TE over there instead of helping with a RB in thier base offense.
    d.
TJ should be making his reads faster this year so that should help the OL a bit as he will get the ball out faster.
    e.
There is still time to add a vet if needed.
They could be looking at a guy who will be cut after the draft as alot of OT will be added to rosters this year making a few old timers not needed anymore.

Long story short, I am just not concerned at this point because it just pisses me off to much to think about it.

I think it will be great for the purp to start out against their biggest rival.
Lets kick some packer ass come September!

Re: Is Opening In Green Bay a Good Thing for the Vikings?

The only thing I can think of that would be bad for the Vikings is that we won't have any game tape on Rodgers as a starter. But I don't think that will be a huge problem.
