Re: For one game, Vikings’ Bennett returns to form

If we are going to continue to use Bennett effectively, we need to run him off tackle and outside...and throw him the ball in the flat on screens and dump passes. That way, he can utilize his speed in the open field...and produce for this offense. Running him up the middle is a waste of time...let Fason or MeMo do that.

I've been saying that all year! I agree Cajun. Most of his sucessful runs were off tackle & to the outside on Sunday.

That should have been the title to this thread and that story. The line blocks the D line and then that allows (pulling lineman or FB) another block on the second level of D, that is when Bennett runs well. That is how R.Smith ran well, he got blocks.

snow...let's hope that isn't the case...I would prefer to see the headline, "Viking O-Line returns to form for the balance of the season...and into the playoffs!"

    In theory it is sound.

You have to look at the games as well. We were rapidly falling behind. While most of you say you would not give up on him, our hand was being forced into a different style of play by our opponent.

You continually turn the ball over, and your defense allows you to fall behind you cannot be so gracious in your patience to allow a guy to find the groove.

My honest opinion is not that anything has changed with M. Bennett but that the line is getting more comfortable and better at working as a team. I don't think it would have mattered if we ran him 25+ times at first because the line was not opening holes. They continued to work at it and now they seem to be making some serious progress.

I agree you can't judge the guy off of 6 carries, and those stats you posted Prophet were a real eye opener. We just need to keep in mind that the progression of the game dictates what you do. Sure those runners you posted didn't start out hot in their first six carries, but the game was progressing in a way they could have patience with the run.
Nothing more needs to be said after this post. End this thread now and leave on a high note.

Our Running backs have looked poor because of bad blocking, playing from behind and abandoning the run, turnovers that have allowed the other teams to score faster and forced us to pass. It has been a downward spiral up until this last game when we scored first and didn't abandon the run.

    How true that is SIA.

But people were bashing on MB & blaming him rather than the O-Line earlier in the season.

I agree, outside is where the yards are for Bennett, and Memo up the middle.
