    Older Fran Tarkenton Interview

I found this article on Pro Football Weekly. Tark gives props to Bud and talks about what kind of a QB he would be in todays NFL.....

    Re: Older Fran Tarkenton Interview

You played for a Hall of Fame head coach — Bud Grant. Was he the best coach you played for, and what was Norm Van Brocklin like as a coach?

    Tarkenton:
"Norm Van Brocklin went into the Hall of Fame as a player — and only a player. But Bud Grant was the best coach ever, not even close. Here’s what distinguished him: He figured it out. He knew how to coach. If you are doing anything in life, you have to figure it out. Bud Grant and Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry are all totally different. But Bud Grant knew how to be a great, successful, winning head coach. If you were on his team, you benefited from that. I don’t care how great you are as a player, you are only as good as your head coach."

What a great answer and great line...

Now we know the answer to WWBGD. He would figure it out. :thumbleft:

Its really hard to explain to those that weren't Viking fans during the Bud Grant era how great a coach he was. It was the way he would call a game. He always had more than one plan. He always had a trick play to throw in just to make it interesting. Even if they were getting beat, you could feel that the players never gave up. And you knew that every player on the team would do anything he asked of them Its hard to describe. You always felt there was a chance to win it no matter what the score when Bud was on the field. You could be down 21 pts and 2 min left and you would still feel that Bud could pull it out.

Well put RK, Always had that feeling.... think about it, back in those days they didn't have 200 coaches each specializing in one position.

    Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader Survivor...Week 5!

OK ladies and gentlemen, the week 4 voting has been tallied and it took me some time to declare who goes on. We did have some campaigning going on and there were some girls who got lofty vote numbers this week. With that said, please limit your email votes to two per email address. Yes, I know most people have multiple email addresses, but if they are willing to click over and vote from all of them that's fine with me.
Again, get your friends and neighbors on your bandwagon for the best Vikings Cheerleader. Each week from here until the end of the year we will have to say "Good Bye" to one lovely lady who helps us cheer on our Vikes each and every home game. These girls are depending on you to keep them in the hunt for the most coveted prize as being voted THE favorite Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader by the ones they work so hard for...you. This week we have to say Good Bye to:

    D5 - Niki.

It was close, but one vote made all the difference.

The remaining Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders are:

    A4 - Brandi
    A5 - Brianna
    A6 - Brianna
    B7 - Katie
    C1 - Katie
    C5 - Laura
    D3 - Melissa
    D7 - Rachel
    E4 - Stephanie

Remember to go to: http://www.vikings.com/cheerroster.html and use the grid we set up to begin with. Letters (A-E) are top to bottom and numbers (1-7) go side to side to match up with the girls you want to vote for.
One more thing...keep sending in your top 2 girls. We are almost to one vote per person but not yet. Maybe in about 2 weeks.
Also, keep checking on my blog..."Norseman's Blitz" for updates on voting and what is happening with this great Contest. As I get news, you will too.
Things are getting tougher each week, but knowing that so many Vikings fans are voting for their favorites makes it much easier to tally up each and every week. The voting this week ends on November 9th at 11:5PM (before the girls turn back into their mild-mannered, everyday selves).

I do have one story to pass along to you all that really speaks volumes about what this is all about and what these girls really do for the community and the team spirit for the Vikings.
One of our voters shared with me a story about one of our young ladies (who is still in the running) who made a little girl in a wheelchair feel like a million bucks immediately following her tryout at the Mall of America this year. Instead of choosing to hob nob withe big wigs who turned out, she picked this little girl and her friends to spend time with and get photos with. The Cheerleader in question then proceeded to take time out of her life to attend this little girls' birthday party...and it could very well be her last birthday. Our prayers go out to that little girl and her family as she continues to battle, but you see what these ladies can do when you stop and pay attention. In a little girls' eyes, they are like stars and we appreciate all they do every week they come out and help us cheer on our Vikings. Just remember, it's always more than just skin deep.
<I chose to leave the cheerleader's name anonymous for our voting and personal purposes, and to our voter who passed on the story to me...I would appreciate you doing the same. I know she did not do it for the noteriety and we should all respect that.>

I await everyone's Week 5 votes in the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader Survivor Contest. Send your votes to [email protected]

Until next time, I'll see you on the sidelines.
