Re: OFFICIAL VIKES vs LIONS POSTGAME THREAD

First half a little shaky, but the drive to end the half was good.
Run defense exploited a little bit today, but they will come around.
I like the fact that we have made adjustments at half the last two weeks.
Something that seemed to be missing last year.
Caught a break when Stafford overthrew his receiver, but you need a few breaks.
    A good win overall.

This could be viewed as a poorly played game, but I liked it.
Mainly for the game adjustments we made to counter the Lions.
The pass protection was aweful, but got better.
We stepped-up on Defense and stopped the Lions.

    Hats off:
    AD
    Favre
    (2-27 and no turnovers)
    Allen
    Greenway
    Leber
    Edwards
    Chiller
    Longwell
    Harvin (little AD)
    Pass Rush

    Needs Improvement:
    TJ
    Pass Blocking
    Run Defense
    Loadholt
    Chester
    First half play

We are 2-0 and looking good.
We do not need 400 yds passing a game to win (wahhhh we needs passing yds to win).
We are efficient, we limit turnovers, and we make good decisions most of the time.
We did convert the fumble and 1 INT by the Lions into scores (a must if you want to win in this league).

    Very happy about this win.
    We will only get better.

The Lions blow jiggly butt...really bad jiggly butt!
That drive right before the 2 minute warning they were pathetic.
Penalties, missing wide open guys, dropped passes and then kicks a FG?
    WTF?
They deserve to lose every game again.
I assume this means Tyrell Johnson.
Didn't see him blow up a lot of plays either, but the guys at the first and second level weren't getting off their blocks well either.
Rock out with your cock out!!!

Re: OFFICIAL VIKES vs LIONS POSTGAME THREAD

Well, we've been fortunate to play really weak teams that aren't much good at anything.
The 49ers are going to punch us in the face if we play like we have been.
They're hungry and motivated, their defense is flying around smashing people and Gore is getting revved up.
If our game plan is to have Peterson run for 180 and 3 touchdowns, we are going to be spending a lot time holding our heads in our hands, wondering what's happening.
Willis and company WILL stop Peterson.
He is not going to destroy that Niners defense.

This game will have to be where the Vikes gel, where the passing game stretched the field a bit and where our defense finally looks like that nasty ass unit that they are supposed to be.

I'm not upset with our play, but it's definitely time to step it up and play a full game, not just a good half.

    Playcalling was fine.
We only see the end result.

We did score 27 unanswered points bro.
    Something worked.

Yah im a little picky due to the opponents

I just think we have only seen a glimpse of what we can do

So far we haven't opened it up at all
It looks kind of like that's the QB choosing not to toss it downfield, rather than the playcalling.
Obviously we can't see a whole ton with the TV angles, but there was a third-down play where Favre took a sack and the announcers called it a coverage sack.
They replayed it from some different angles, and it looked like there was a throw to Kleinsasser between the LBs and the deep safety.
It also looked like there might have been a throw to B-twice on the corner.
Not positive on either of those because even those shots were limited and I'm going by memory.

It just seems like Favre is choosing to hold back on those throws.
Not a terrible strategy to just let AD and the defense control the game if that's the plan.
Eventually the Vikes will need to make some of those plays though, and we'll see what happens.

Anyway, pretty good game once the team got going.
Percy Harvin is a good player.

My MVP goes to Chad Greenway.
4 tackles, 2 game changing INT's and a fumble recovery.
    Not too shaby.
    Skol!
    Go Vikings!

I felt that Chad Greenway was the biggest playmaker of the day. Without him, there would not have been 3 turnovers. He had two interceptions, and recovered a fumble. This young man is a player we should keep around for many many years.

Slogan of the day: It's better to dominate in the second half rather than in the first half.

I was watching a crappy stream on and off, the quality was bad and it was slow so I missed much of the game.

What was the deal with a couple of the timeouts called?

The first one called, it was around 11-12 minutes left in 1st quarter, right before Peterson's fumble. 4th and 1 in the 4th quarter, why call a TO on 4th and 1 then come out and kick the field goal??

Hopefully clock management does not become an issue down the road.

Why do we come out flat?

    Coaching is an issue.
IMO it was the Lions coaching, I think they have really improved.
They don't have all the players yet but Linehan has helped their O and they seemed ready for a division foe. Don't get me wrong, the lions will be picking in the top 10 this year but in 2 years......they really need Millen back lol

Re: OFFICIAL VIKES vs LIONS POSTGAME THREAD

There were three teams on the field today.

The first team was the Lions.
    The Lions...well, they're the Lions.
    They do what they do.

The second team was the impostors in purple that I saw play the first half.
They were manhandled on both sides of the ball by one of the worst teams in NFL history, and they were lucky to get out of the first half down by only three.
I never want to see this team again.

The third team was the team I saw in the second half.
They were efficient, their defense was dominant, and they scored 17 points while allowing just three.
This is a lot closer to the team I want to see on the field every Sunday.
I'd like to see us a bit better, though.

    My grades:

QB: A. 2 TDs, no interceptions, high completion percentage.
We looked very comfortable passing the football.
RBs: A-. Peterson didn't get the ball much, but he did stuff with it when he got it.
    He also caught some passes.
WRs: B+/A-. Percy Harvin is looking like a helluva pickup.
TEs: B. Shiancoe is Shiancoe - he does his job.
OL: D+/C-. They looked awful for much of the first half.
Favre is not going to last long if he keeps getting sacked all the time.
DL: C-. Come on, guys - it's the LIONS.
They shouldn't be able to run all over you.
LBs: B. Greenway is the hero of today's game.
DBs: B. I didn't hear much from our DBs today. But when Calvin Johnson is on the other team, that's a good thing. 5 catches for 51 yards is good when you're up against Megatron.
Special Teams: B. Nothing special - no touchdowns given up, no major mistakes.
    Coaching: B-.
D for the first half, B+/A- for the second.
We came out flat, but made the necessary adjustments and won the game.

    Overall grade: B-.
Not as pretty as the score suggests, but I'll take it.

Next week, it's the 49ers, and they are NOT going to be easy.
Their defense is really stout, and I think they are going to be a playoff team this year.
I hope for our sake we come out and play more consistently than we did in the first two games.

    Well maybe it should be

We are gonna have to sometime

92 yards from AP and a few dump offs to RBs and a couple short passes to WRs won't get it dont against the likes of the Steelers and teams like that

Happy to be 2-0.. Lucky we have played 2 of the worst teams in the league
