Re: Official Post Game Thoughts, Observations, and Rants

Wow, I don't care who your quarterback is, there was ZERO seconds to throw the ball, ever.
And, the QB in there today was absolutely terrible.
When he did throw it, the only completions seemed to be to the other team.

I can see why the Vikings have problems selling tickets.
Who wants to see this product on the field?
I am a die hard fan, I would watch if we had high school players in there, but to so many casual Minnesota fans, how can you sell them a team that CANNOT complete a pass downfield for 20+ yards EVER.
Watching all the other highlights around the league, every other team had 2+ passing touchdowns, many of which were thrown 25+ yards down the field.
    What do we have?
    Dump-offs or interceptions.
Gee whiz, can't wait to watch that ALL SEASON LONG - yeah, sign me up so I can get up close to that action.
"Is this going to be a three yard check down to a grossly over-paid Shiancoe, or will it be an interception?
The suspense is killing me.......Oh, the O-line couldn't hold and it was just a sack.
    Wow, this is exciting football!"

Forget this team, besides the defense.
Whoever is in charge of putting this squadron together should be disgusted when they look in the mirror, I don't care who you are.
Offensively, that barely resembled football to me - keeping in mind these people get paid insane amounts of money and have all week to prepare for three hours, to come out and give that offensive showing to the fans, I find downright disrespectful.

    Hey!
    Bright side!
I wore my Sharper jersey, and that badazz S.O.B. caught two awesome interceptions!
The D still warrants the price of admission and TV viewings for me.

This was, without a doubt, one of the WORST games I've ever watched.

I was going to post a long dissection of the blunders today, but realized that I'm still too pissed to do so.
Suffice to say that, at this momnet in time, if we fired Childress and cut Jackson I wouldn't be all that upset.

    The viking merger

    I have a great idea

Lets merge the lions and vikings.
We will keep the detroit offense and the vikings defense.
    Can you say superbowl?

    We need a punisher.

Vikings need a guy who will lay Jon Kitna the F'd out. I don't care if that's cruel, I want a punisher. Someone who will make players think twice. Seeing Kitna run through our defense...I nearly died falling off my chair.

    Goodnes that was pathetic.
Because I'm a Vikings fan, they are that much sexier.

The Real Problem...and all of you know it!

Our offensive line is overpaid and overrated.
I actually timed on a stopwatch in the 4th quarter and overtime how much time Jackson has to throw a football.
On average 2 seconds before someone is in his face!
    Mckinnie = Overrated

    Birk = superoverrated!

Why were we not running the ball more in overtime?
Detroit wanted nothing to do with Peterson!

Re: Oficial Post Game Thoughts, Observations, and Rants

Obviously, there was a lot terrible here.
But I have to pin this one on the coaches, and in particular, the offensive play calling.
Why did we throw the ball around so much?
Why did we put this game on Tarvaris after all this talk about him not having to win the game?

    Complaint #1 - 3rd downs.
We were 4-13 on 3rd down.
We were 2-2 when we ran the ball, and 2-11 when we threw the ball.
I'm not suggesting we would have been 13-13 or anything, but we would have had a lot better chance if we had run on some of those.
Especially our first three 3rd and shorts in the first half.

    Complaint #2 - run/pass ratio.
We called 45 passing plays by my count (including six scrambles and two sacks).
    We called 27 running plays.
If the situations dictated this sort of imbalance, fine.
    But it didn't.
We were consistantly passing on first down and on third and short.
Did we not have the roster I thought we had?
Who was calling plays and when?

    Complaint #3 - penalties.
    Why, God, why?
Why did we have 12 penalties?

I'm actually not too ticked at Tarvaris' play.
He was terrible, but at least two of his picks came on deep throws on third down (not much worse than a punt).
More importantly, why did the coaches keep giving him the chance to throw the picks?

I also thought the defense played really well.
They allowed a bunch of yards and 20 points, but came up with a score and five turnovers.
Considering that the offense gave it up five turnovers, that was pretty darn good.

    AD looked pretty good.
Too bad he didn't touch the ball another ten times.
On that first half catch and run down to the 1, well... I was thinking that maybe his nickname should be LT.
    AD is better though.

Special teams, minus the missed long kick by longwell, was very good.
    Unless I'm forgetting something.
Guess we didn't punt too much, what with the turnovers.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

Would it be that bad to try to get Byron Leftwitch for cheap? I also think that our line needed some help in the offseason and we didn't spend any money to upgrade.
