Have the Vikings ever had a coach or QB you liked?I'm surprised that people are only now getting pissed about our lack of Defensive adjustments. Frazier, and Tomlin before him, and Cotrell before them have all shared the inability to adjust.
We, as fans, often gloss over that failing because, truthfully, our Defense has played at a very high level ever since Cotrell left.
But when have we had a dominant or "frightening" secondary in recent memory? I can't recall. We have had trouble finding quality DB's for as long as I can remember. And our Defense has ridden the ability of the front 4 for just as long.
Recently, our front 4 hasn't produced. Anything. That puts the spotlight back on our weak secondary.
What "Adjustments' would you have us make? We blitzed a LOT...we just never touched Brady (Well...after he got rid of the ball we did). Our Secondary was exactly what it's always been...poor. And we got beat by poor tackling - something we USUALLY don't see.
So, honestly, I've never been real big on Frazier as a coach. I guess that's why I'm not screaming for his scalp now...

Mike Tomlin turned a craptacular Vikings defense into a very good one. He then turned a good steelers defense into the best in the NFL.
He's 38 and has a SuperBowl ring as a NFL head coach. Your standards are very unrealistic, IMHO.

Tomlin inherited a great football team and won a superbowl with them that first year. The Steelers did how good last year? I hate it when people say Tomlin is a great coach, he hasnt proven to be a great coach yet. Just a lucky coach who got a great team handed to him.Caine wrote:

Just like when people say Cowher is a great coach. How long did it take him to win a superbowl? He may be a good coach but not a great coach.

Leslie Frasier is coaching the defense Brad Childress wants to run
Why must you defend everything this FO does....to the point of making your self look like a yes man.

I do agree that Frazier's D has been well below par this year, but in fairness that is in no small part to us having injuries at key positions on the D, though of course some of the play calling has been very vanilla so far, bar the nice/effective saftey blitz's against the Cards.Mr Anderson wrote:
Yup, awesome all year. All that QB pressure. Giving the Pack yards and 1st Downs at the end of the game when we needed a stop. AWESOME!This is in no way Frazier's fault.
His guy's have been awesome all season up until the second half today.
I'm surprised they hung in as long as they did.
This team has no heart, it's allergic to winning. And it all traces back to Childress.
I see the logic. Blame Chiller (who BTW blows) but do not blame Frazier for his Defense.
They are paid big $$$ to hang in there.
I do think a lot of the problems also stem from us being behind most of the times in games, where as last season we opened up a lead early and let the D loose.

What? We should be commending Frazier, not bashing him. I would love to have him as our HC too. I know he'd better than ole Chilly!

Yeah.. Not really understanding the heat that Frazier is getting.. Last I checked the Vikes have 1 healthy CB, and the secondary has been plagued with injuries the entire season.
Frazier isn't the problem.Vegans are eating the rainforests. =(

Does the team have to promote from within during the season?

Maybe we could get a temp from manpower inc. or labor ready.

If you really want a new head coach, it's my opinion that the Vikings should look for a defensive-minded head coach. If he's available, I would suggest Kirk Ferentz from the University of Iowa. He's had NFL experience before (with the Jaguars and Ravens), and I feel he may be a good fit for the Vikings in 2011. Comments anyone?jargomcfargo wrote:
Right now I'm thinking Cowher (Spitball) or Chucky... Mooch as an outside possibility. When Childress goes, they all need to go.
Leslie can be interim HC if it happens before the season ends, but we need to get someone with a proven positive track record as a head coach.
There are some who have that resume. I suggest we get one.
In reality I will be happier to see the Childress version of the west coast offense, and the cover two go than Childress himself.
I hate this system.
The offense is like watching paint dry and the defense is analogous to slow death.
Of the 3, I prefer Spitball.

Frazier isn't the problem.
One could almost argue that the backside is playing better than they should considering how bad that group has played when one looks at the scheme.
Take the game with the Bores yesterday, big yards happened when two things took place.......
1. The front 4 alone couldn't get to the QB. All Cutler had to do was move around a bit after the intial wave came and wait for someone to find a seam in the zone.
2. When we blitzed a LB, we were burned by the short dumpoff into that zone vacated by the LB who was blitzing. Again, Cutler just had to step up or side step in the pocket and wait.
We have huge issues on the defensive line. It can be attributed to one of two things........
1. Kevin and Phat Pat now all of a sudden suck.
2. Poor coaching.
Just in case your wondering, I am leaning towards both of them. Not so much Kevin, but Phat Pat just can't go anymore which ultimately brings out the issue that Leslie has no clue when it comes to DL rotations.
I watched and saw Leslie doing two things to try to over come this......
1. Rotated Fred Evans in for Phat Pat. Trust me when I say Fred ins't Phat Pat.
2. Rotated Kevin over to the 0 technique and brought in Guion to play Kevins spot. This worked at times, especially when JA was doubled (didn't happen much by the way), but it wasn't consistent enough when we needed it. Seemed like he had a bad rotation out there everytime we were in 3rd and long.
Long story short, we should have addressed the DT position in the offseason, instead we brought back Fred and JK (were was he by the way), which just isn't getting it done.
You want to see this team start winning? Put a DL out there that gets pressure on the QB, and can get off the field, and you will see this team change. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
