PACKERS WERE STILL TRYING TO PEDDLE FAVRE TO THE BUCS
Posted by Mike Florio on August 5, 2008, 12:34 p.m. UTCWonder how a similar thing would play out....Favre’s options at that point would be to fail to show, which would expose him to fines in excess of $15,000 per day, or to retire again, and face the possibility of having to pay back a portion of his past signing bonus to his new team.
Coincidentally, the Bucs did just that with Jake Plummer a year ago, giving the Broncos a seventh-round pick that would have become a fourth-rounder if Plummer had reported.
Plummer didn’t show, and the Bucs ultimately got $3.5 million from Plummer for a seventh-round pick.

Re: Official Favre, Vikes, Bears, Trade, Packers deserve to Lose thread
on the NFLN, they said even though he was reinstated, he would still have to approve any trade.
regardless, he still has to agree to restructure, as almost no team will take the $12 million dollar hit, so really, he has some say.
All he needs to do is tell the team that no way in hell
he's restructuring, and if they want him, then pay $12 mill.
he still has leverage.

Re: Official Favre, Vikes, Bears, Trade, Packers deserve to Lose thread
I was under the assumption that he was able to approve the trade.
My bad.
Guys he won't be a Viking without us giving up something for him.
They will trade him to the highest bidder and if he ever plays again will be BF decision and something they (GB) won't have to worry about. This is assuming he doesn't have trade approval.
Sad!
I hope he does have the trade approval like the NFLN says.

Re: Official Favre, Vikes, Bears, Trade, Packers deserve to Lose thread
well, really, he does need to approve the trade, whether technically he does or not.
All he needs to do is call the jets, say "screw you, i'm not playing for you, if you trade for me, your wasting picks, because I will just retire again, or cause major shit in your TC"

I can't wait for this thread to hit 200 pages of rampant speculation.
I head the Packers were going to trade him to Philly and Philly was going to send McNabb here and that frerotte was going to GB to become the backup.

Re: Official Favre, Vikes, Bears, Trade, Packers deserve to Lose thread
seems like Favre has had just about enough with the Packers. He also expressed anger with the stories that alleged he had a team-issued cell phone that showed the Vikings were tampering with him.
"Again, that was bull on both parts," he said.
"Then," Favre said, "they tried to buy me off to stay retired."
He added, "So they can say they welcome me back but, come on, the way they've treated me tells you the truth. They don't want me back, so let's move on. I don't know where it's headed. We'll see."
Can the players union do anything in this situation?
I'm not too sure what power they have, but i remember they did something for McNair with the Titans when they didn't let him into camp.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3520064Nice soap opera we have going on...."We're at a stalemate," Favre said. "Mike and I both agreed last night that me being out there is a distraction and will continue to be a distraction. We all know the reason I'm here is because the commissioner [Roger Goodell] reinstated me so we have a lot of things to figure out. It's simple and complicated, both at the same time." ...
"Mike told me, hey, we're a better team with you on it but wanted to know if I have a problem with an open competition," Favre said. "I don't have a problem with competing -- you know that, but Aaron should be the starter right now because he's been out here all this time. This is more than about an open competition and I can do that, absolutely, but this is going to be mass confusion and that's not good for this team.
"I'll practice my butt off, if it comes to that, and I think we all know what the end result will be, but this probably isn't going to work. And I truly understand that if I was in Mike's shoes, I'd see it basically the same way he sees it, I'm sure. And I think if he was in my shoes, he'd see it my way. I think we both agree on that.
"They want to know if I'm committed but I want to know if they're 100 percent committed. The problem is that there's been a lot of damage done and I can't forget it. Stuff has been said, stories planted, that just aren't true. Can I get over all that? I doubt it."...

Re: Official Favre, Vikes, Bears, Trade, Packers deserve to Lose thread
The talk in Mankato yesterday was that Favre would be a Viking before the day was over.
That did not happen, but I am starting to believe it will.
