Re: The Official Christian Ponder Thread

Christian Ponder Did Not Have It Easy

If you get a chance, you absolutely have to read the whole story that Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press did on Vikings' quarterback Christian Ponder. It goes into Ponder's rather strict upbringing as well as his emergence as a leader at Florida State. A very well-done article by Mr. Fowler.

Oh, and don't think that Ponder doesn't here the fools that are criticizing the fact that he was drafted where he was drafted. . .because he does.

Re: The Official Christian Ponder Thread

Maybe Christian Ponder Wasn't The Worst Draft Pick Ever After All

After the initial whining, crying, and general gnashing of teeth over the Vikings "reaching" to select Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder with the 12th overall pick, it appears that at least a few folks are finally saying that the pick maybe. . .just maybe. . .wasn't quite so bad and people should maybe let the guy play an actual game or two before passing judgement.

One of those people is Doug Farrar, who usually writes for Football Outsiders, but did a piece over the weekend for Yahoo! Sports over the weekend praising Ponder's talent. His last paragraph pretty much sums everything up.
Thought this was a bit humorous

See, it's amazing what happens when people take a minute or two to actually think about things and analyze them rather than simply running around and screaming "OH MY GOD WHAT A REACH I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO GO IN THE SECOND ROUND AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!" Those people that fall into the second category are going to end up looking really dumb. . .it's just a matter of whether the next great Vikings' quarterback makes them look stupid starting this season or next season.
After saying maybe let the guy play a few games first then at the end he's looking to point the finger at others and likening him (Ponder) to (possibly) being the next great QB for the Vikings........and there hasn't been any NFL ball snaps yet. I hope he can be the next great Viking Quarterback but there is still a huge amount of road to travel.

Though, is Ponder really that much better than Webb?
I hope I was wrong. Seeing how he plays tomorrow will help me settle whether he was a 'reach' or not. We may still lose, but if puts 250 yds, 70% comp, 2 TD, and <=1 int against this GB defense, I will be an extremely happy camper. Anybody need a tent-mate?

No, because if Ponder does that against the Packers then the tent I'll be pitching will be in my pants.

The first hurdle for Ponder has been reached. He has improved the passing game.

At some point in a game, the Vikings will fall far enough behind that Ponder will have to engineer a comeback victory with his arm.

When that happens, the offense and Ponder, will be on their way.

I just hope the defense will also improve.

Since around 17 or so, I have not once set up a tent without a beer in hand. Does that count?
