No love for Carl Eller at the "HALL"

Damn has anyone else noticed how only Elway and Sanders are getting the brunt of the attention at the Hall of fame ceremonies and now during the game. You would almost think they were the only 2 players inducted into the Hall this weekend. Eller has got even less press then the other guy they arent talking about. :rr:

He made a social statment with it, telling young african american kids not to take the path of drugs and violence. I liked his speech alot, I see no issue with it at all.

    Carl Eller

I heard some of Carl's speech as well, and all I have to say is: THANK YOU CARL!!!! It's about time someone in the community with some weight makes a statement. I applaud him, especially since he had a similar background toward the end of his career and afterward. And yes, I am white, if anyone is curious. I just think it's great that someone with respect in this world came out and put a challenge out to the youth of today (not just black youth) to take some responsibility for their own futures.

He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame just for his achievements on the football field. But he really gets my vote for what he did in his speech: showed that you don't have to resort to drugs and violence if you're a member of today's youth in order to make it in today's world.

    Thanks for listening!

I think the erason he has not got much coverage is because of the time he played. How many of you on this forum can actually say you saw Carl Eller play. I am 38 years old and I rarely saw him. Mostly because 25 years ago there was no Fox TV carrying the vikings games back then. Where all NFL fans regardless to age know who John Elway and Barry Sanders are. I just asked our 9 year old and 13 year old who Carl Eller is and they had no idea. This goes for alot of sports writers as well, most of them my age and younger probobly had to do research to find out what he actually did in the NFL.
As for his speech, I did not hear it either but I have heard alot of people in the media praise him for it. One said he somewhat took a page from Bill Cosby with it. I think it is his way of giving something back by being a true role model.

Kind of close to the Bill Cosby deal? (with which I cannot totally argue against or completely support as I am not in the situation)

Guess that also means that those fans will have forgotten how Elway was originally drafted by Baltimore and then refused to play for them before being traded away - yet those same fans probably berated Eli Manning this year when he said the same before the draft.
Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...
