No blame for Daunte?
I was at the game yesterday ... and on this forum, fans leaving the stadium and in the media, it seems to me that noone is putting the blame on Daunte.
They are saying ... well they shouldn't have traded Moss or ... Tice should be fired or ... Bennett fumbled away everything ... the ownership won't spend ... Loney sucks ... etc.
While many of these are valuable points, the lack of finger pointing at C-Pep seems odd to me. Everything yesterday stemmed from Daunte looking uncomfortable from the very first snap. Sure, Bennett dropped that first ball, but it was a duck of a pass that got there late and had no spiral ... Williamson was WIDE OPEN at least twice and underthrown, the pick going to Burly deep was underthrown ... well you get the point.
We all know he has talent, and by no means do I think he should be benched or anything of the sort ... but when your quarterback turns the ball over 10 times in two games I think he deserves about 99% of the blame on his shoulders. There is a reason it is the most visible postition in all of sports.
Hell, he even fumbled the ball away a couple of times yesterday, but since the Bengals could not stay onsides we kept possession so he could throw a pick later. I find it amazing that we only punted like once yesterday, but still had only the one TD.
I don't know how to fix it, but EVERYTHING will be all right if Daunte stops turning the ball over ... it all starts there, and if he does not get going soon he will never live down being called good "only because of 84" ... that will do it for my rant. Let the Daunte apologists come out and blame everyone else, but simply put Daunte is the only one who can turn this thing around.

Re: No blame for Daunte?
Daunte has part of the blame, but its not like this guy got bad over night...theres something behind the sceens that is causing this kinda play outta him

So, how was Klewe's punting average? Its better to lose the first game than the last one.

That's what I keep thinking. Is there something wrong with him? is it the pressure from having no Moss or Linehan and the fans high expectations? It was all the turnovers!

Re: No blame for Daunte?
Ya same here PPE, I think daunte is facing defenses he hasnt played against in awhile. Defenses now can cover us. They can stack the line with 8 and cover our WR's no problem, cuz there not worring about moss. The loss of Linehan has really shown its mark. Culpepper is still in the top 3 qb's in the nfl, and he does deserve blame, but come on, what person in here beleives that this guy needs to be cut? noone...we gotta hope he can bounce back and see things clearly.

Re: No blame for Daunte?
I look at it this way, Chuckie and the boys came to town and owned the Vikings in their house. Mr. Lewis copied Chuckie's gameplan, improved on it a little while Mr. Tice was busy wondering what went wrong while watching re-runs of Gilligan's Island. This resulted in Daunte and the gang getting back-to-back schoolings.

Re: No blame for Daunte?
Problem is we're using the same game plan as we have in the past, but minus one very important ingredient... Randy!
We should have hired a new OC and totally revamped the offensive game plan when Randy left because the field is not going to be stretched like it once was. Offenses can blitz a lot more and those safties are free to make more plays.
