I was at the game yesterday ... and on this forum, fans leaving the stadium and in the media, it seems to me that noone is putting the blame on Daunte.
They are saying ... well they shouldn't have traded Moss or ... Tice should be fired or ... Bennett fumbled away everything ... the ownership won't spend ... Loney sucks ... etc.
While many of these are valuable points, the lack of finger pointing at C-Pep seems odd to me. Everything yesterday stemmed from Daunte looking uncomfortable from the very first snap. Sure, Bennett dropped that first ball, but it was a duck of a pass that got there late and had no spiral ... Williamson was WIDE OPEN at least twice and underthrown, the pick going to Burly deep was underthrown ... well you get the point.
We all know he has talent, and by no means do I think he should be benched or anything of the sort ... but when your quarterback turns the ball over 10 times in two games I think he deserves about 99% of the blame on his shoulders. There is a reason it is the most visible postition in all of sports.
Hell, he even fumbled the ball away a couple of times yesterday, but since the Bengals could not stay onsides we kept possession so he could throw a pick later. I find it amazing that we only punted like once yesterday, but still had only the one TD.
I don't know how to fix it, but EVERYTHING will be all right if Daunte stops turning the ball over ... it all starts there, and if he does not get going soon he will never live down being called good "only because of 84" ... that will do it for my rant. Let the Daunte apologists come out and blame everyone else, but simply put Daunte is the only one who can turn this thing around.
