Nicknames On The Minnesota Vikings
I love nicknames!
the Minnesota Vikings is a team with a several nicknames on the roster. Most of the players have their own individual nickname, but we have nicknames for tandems and even whole units too.
Here are some examples of famous nicknames on the Vikings:
Adrian Peterson
All Day (... like the energizer bunny. It has been his nickname his whole life as his parents came up with it)
The Diesel (We all now that Peterson can't be human. He has a tattoo on his arm that says "Diesel")
Purple Jesus (given by the Vikings fans. "Purple Messiah" would be more appropriate, but "Purple Jesus" has a better ring to it)
Brett Favre
Silver Fox (I think Jared Allen came up with this one. Haha!)
Iron Man (legendary toughness and ability to play through injuries, not to mention his record streak of consecutive games)
Grandpa (he'll possibly become the only grandpa to play in the NFL)
Tandems
Kevin Williams & Pat Williams - "Williams Wall" and "Williams Wrecking Crew" are perhaps the most famous nickname on the Vikings.
Bryant McKinnie & Phil Loadholt - they both already have have their own nickname ("Mount McKinnie" and "The Load") but the huge tandem tackles also has an excellent nickname: "Twin Cities".
Units
Defensive line - There was a poll going on about a nickname for the best D-line in the league (the best D-line deserve a nickname) and "Wall of America" and "Shock and A.W.W.E" were two of many good candidates.
---
Anyway, the point of this thread is to talk about the nicknames. Who knows? Maybe we'll come up with some new nicknames in the process...
Considering we just got the best power running back tandem in the NFL (arguably the best running back tandem) Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart definitely need a good nickname so here are some suggestions:
Mostly based on their similar running style
"Purple Pain Train"
"Fast & Furious"
"Purple Punch"
On the fun side
"Butterfingers & Milky Way"
"Rumble & Fumble"
Keep 'em coming, people!

Kleinsasser: Flyin' Saucer
IF, and only IF he leads us to a SuperBowl win, Favre will gain the nickname of "The Iceman"...since Hell will have FINALLY frozen over!

Re:Nicknames On The Minnesota Vikings
I like Bernard Berrian's nickname, 'B-Twice', which I've heard him referred to by teammates from Chicago and Minnesota. It's of the name variety but not so obvious as say 'T-Jack'. Hasn't caught on here or in the media though.
I think Percy Harvin had the nickname 'Matrix' in high school or college (or both). Not a huge fan of that one, but I don't know a better nickname for the kid. I think I saw someone refer to him as 'Velcro' once, but just on a website. I like the nickname for a wide receiver, but don't think it fits Percy as well as some other guys.
I've seen some website refer to Jared Allen as 'Rodeo'. I think that's a pretty good one actually. Just calling Allen 'Bad Ass' would probably work too, since he throws that term around quite a bit.
Can't remember exactly but I think Kevin Williams was nicknamed 'the beast' or something by teammates at one point. Don't like that one, and if it was different it wasn't very memorable.
I don't like Sidney Rice's nickname, 'King Rice'. But he has another one going around, 'Showtime', that is pretty sweet if not entirely original.
Someone mentioned the 'Ebony and Ivory' when talking about AD and Gerhart in another thread. I think that is going to inevitably come up, but I wonder if it will be used by writers and sports talkers?
Apparently rookie corner Chris Cook has the nickname 'Cookie', or did at Virginia anyway.
Anyway, different nicknames that I have heard, not invented.
I think Jared Allen should be put in charge of the whole process based on coming up with 'the Silver Fox'. That's quality nickname work right there. Pay him an extra $500k and add nickname guy to his job description.
Oh, and in the realm of funny/negative nicknames... Though not a Viking, years ago I heard someone call Peyton Manning, 'Mr. October'. I thought that was pretty awesome. When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

Re:Nicknames On The Minnesota Vikings
What a fun idea for a thread..... A few of my favorites.....
Rice - El Syd. Came up with that one for my good friend El...
Tyrell Johnson - STJ = Safety TJ
Winfield - Whinny A few on here know why I call him that.
Ryan Longwell - Shortwell. I actually didn't come up with that one. I heard some PUKER fans calling him that on another site a few years ago.
Kluwe - Clueless. Not sure were I heard that one, but I think it applies.
Pat Williams - Phat Pat. Love this cat. Wish he was back in his prime.
Rhys Lloyd - Rhoid. Just made that one up this morning.
Toby Gerhart - T-heart. Just came up with that one two. Along with Rhoid, might need a little work.
Cedric Griffin - Used to be Griff but we have a conflict now with Everson. I'm gonna use Cgriff from now on.
Everson Griffen - Because of conflicts with Cgriff I am going to use Egriff.
A few others I use once in awhile.
Lord Noodle Arm Dickhead - LNAD.
Dickhead. Short for LNAD.
Noodle. Short for LNAD.
Asshole. Short for LNAD.
Cry baby. Short for LNAD.
Absent. Short for LNAD.
Again, a great idea for a thread. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

This has some fantastic nicknames for Gerhart and AP.
Sidney is Brown Rice, to me and my cousin.
I like salt and pepper for ap and gerhartI am NOT here to provide good football insight or rational observations. I am an emotional 19 year old Viking fan and I expect you to adjust your expectations from my posts.

Re:Nicknames On The Minnesota Vikings
For kleinsasser its either Flyin saucer or kleinstumbler, because anytime he catches the ball, you can be sure he'll be on the ground in a second. lol.
