Next 3 games. Pussyball is done.

Next three games are going to be exciting.
The team has had some time to settle into a semblance of collaboration and execution.
Now is the time to close the season with a rash of wins and get to that magical 10th win.
All these games are very winnable.
The receiving corps is getting more time to gel with the new QB and the team will hopefully get business taken care of so TJack can get some more playing time so a decision can be made regarding his future and the team's future at QB.

Ravens (3-2), losses to Patriots and Bengals at home
Steelers (3-2), losses to Bears and Bengals away
Packers (2-2), losses to Bengals home and Vikings

Bengals have beaten all three teams and their only loss is to Denver by 5 pts.
Damn, where did that team come from?
Denver had a nice OT win over the Patriots last night.

Following are some worthless statistics through game 5.

    Pts/game-offense
    Vikings #3:
    31.2
    Ravens #5:
    27.6
    Steelers #14:
    22.6
    Packers #8:
    26

The KAO is in effect, sure is nice to have more of a balanced approach and a QB.

    Yds/game-offense
    Vikings #18:
    332.6, passing (#17@216 yds/g), rushing ([email protected] yds/g)
    Ravens #5:
382.2, passing ([email protected] yds/g), rushing ([email protected] yds/g)
    Steelers #7:
375.8, passing ([email protected] yds/g), rushing ([email protected] yds/g)
    Packers #14:
    340.8, passing (#12@241 yds/g), rushing ([email protected] yds/g)

Lacking in yards/game against these opponents, but, getting the W when it matters.
The Vikings and Ravens have 65% of their offense coming from the air while the Steelers have 73% and the Packers have 71%....what does that mean?
    Pretty much nothing.

    Pts/game-defense
    Vikings #9: 18
    Ravens #12: 19.4
    Steelers #15: 19.6
    Packers #21:23.2

This is the statistic that matters most.
It has held us within a score for the past three years in the majority of our games and now we are winning the close ones instead of losing the close ones.
With a top 10 defense in pts given up and a top three offense in pts scored….that, is a winning combination.
    Keep it up Vikings!

    Yds/game-defense
    Vikings #14: 320.6, passing ([email protected] yds/g), rushing (#10@96 yds/g)
    Ravens #10: 314, passing (#25@238 yds/g), rushing (#5@76 yds/g)
Steelers #6: 290.8, passing ([email protected] yds/g), rushing ([email protected] yds/g)
    Packers #18: 335.2, passing (#17@223 yds/g), rushing ([email protected] yds/g)

The statistics are still playing themselves out this early in the season.
The Vikings rank at #18 against the pass but it is statistically the same number for our next three upcoming opponents.
The Packers are losing in the average rushing yds given up.

Sacks (toss this in for fun)
    Vikings #1: 18
    Ravens #11: 11
    Steelers #3: 15
    Packers #30: 5

    Got to like this statistic.

If the Vikings can keep their points given up statistic low and their scoring statistic high, they will be successful.
The falls into the category of 'no shit'.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

    Now there ya go.
This is the kindof posts this site has been missing.
    Excellent stuff my friend.

gol 'darnit, where did that team come from?

Dec 13th is gonna be a barn burner......Can't wait.

    Something else to consider......

Punting. 18th - Considering that we have had alot of them (23 Tied for 11th) we are sitting pretty good with our average this year.

    It's all about the wins.
Sure it's nice to see players with good stats, but you cannot let that predetermine the outcome of a game.

The evidence is the upsets we see every week and teams that should be good (Titans) but are not.

    Lol....the Titans.
What a fall from the graces of 13-3!

I agree, I don't care what the stats point to, we are 5-0 and that's the stat I'm liking a lot.

    Exactamundo Ultra,
If I was still gambling, I'da have lost my ass, early in the year with the Titanics.
I would have bet my house they where going to be darn hard to beat this year.
Go figure, they looked dam good against the Steelers in that first loss, maybe they blew their whole load in that one?

Re: Next 3 games. Pussyball is done.

The schedule was very good for the Vikes this year, as the first 5 games were a good warm-up.

Favre has had a chance to get better in sync with his receivers.

The defense is getting in stride.
Sully, Loadholt, Harvin all have games under their belt
EJ has shaken the rust off.
Tyrell seems to be settling in at SS.
Being 5-0 has built some confidence.

Vikes are in a good position to taking on the next 3 games, the only thing that would be better is a bye before GB not after, but you can't have everything.

So you are of the mind that stats have no play in the game?

I for one think that stats have a huge play.
It gives not only us yutz fans something to discuss, but I am sure they are used by the coaching staffs as clear indicators of weaknesses (and strengths) as they break down the teams they are gonna face.

Not sure about you but I love looking at the situational stats.
I don't think they are in any ways "Gospel" with respect to what teams will do, but they are good indicators on what teams tendancies are in certain situations.

We just played the shit teams early, with the exception of the Pack.
    Still think they are good.

Does not getting any easier with the Ravens, Ptt, and a vengeful Packers at home.
If we come out of the next 3 at least 2-1, I think we should all be happy.
