Re: News from Vikings WR Sidney Rice

Well, most of the WCO is based in short passes to several spread out targets...that seems like a fit.
The question I guess, is the accuracy and decision making enough to make up for the lack of deep strength?
Or will the same zone blitz that hampers our rushing attack continue to clog the short passing zones?

I really hope Rice can stay healthy this year!
He's really flashed some nice potential.
Finally, our WR core seems to have some real nice depth/competition coming together.
Pretty sure BB, PH, and Rice are locks, but if guys like JJ, Reynaud, Allison, and/or Holt step up their games, Wade, our leading reciever, might feel some pressure.
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

I had a good mini-camp, went through it without the knee bothering me at all so that’s a real good thing. I was running routes full speed and participated in every single drill we did and it felt good.
Still more evidence that his knee impacted what he could do last year.

    :
He should become one of Favre's favorite targets this year
Agree......Cats that will benifit from LNAD's abilities (if he stays in the scheme).....

    a.
Rice - Big target over the middle.
Short to intermediate routes, especially in the Redzone.
    b.
    B-wade/PH - Quick slants.
    c.
    Shanc.
    Same as rice.
    d.
    RB's.

    Who will suffer......
    a.
    BB/Deep route runners.

Who will benifit if he turns into the gunslinger and trys to hit BB........Defensive Secondary of the opposing team.

Looks like you're coming around a bit to the arrival of the Lord as you so appointed him,

Simply put, everyone benefits from better QB play, hopefully if Favre comes here that will be the case.

I have noticed in Favre's past that he does like to pick a favorite receiver and put a lot of pressure on him to step up his game.
Who that will be on our squad, I'm not sure, but if the receivers don't show they can come through for him I don't see a lot of patience from his part.
No, no, not coming around, just actually talking about what is feasible and what isn't.
Again, I have tried to stay pretty open minded about what he can/can't do.

Getting it deep with accuracy is one of those things I don't think he will be able to do on a consistent basis.

Like we saw with the Jets last year, I think D-coords have realized this and thats why you saw so many stacked boxes against them last year.
I know some don't like to admit it, but, a 6.65 yards per attempt isn't getting it deep my friend.
Even TJ has a longer pass (59) than LNAD (56).

    ;D

As I posted before.....Of the games he played in....

    a.
He had 89 passes of 40> and other than a couple of vids, 2 or 3 of them actually were the WR getting YAC for most of those yards.
    Even ole Gussyboy had 6.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/player...?playerId=0112

I'm sure you do know that 59 yard pass by TJ there was about 35 of it that were YAC if not more.

Exactly. And really how many bombs does anyone think we will be throwing in this offense? We aren't the Raiders.

How many yards was the ball in the air for Berrians 99 yd TD last season Vs. the Bears? That is really all the deeper the routes need to be.

    Good read...

I like Syd and I hope he continues to improve.
It would be great to have PH, BB, and Syd to become a widely recognized triple threat, along the lines of Moss, Carter, and Reed.
    One can hope

I dunno... Favre is also the King of the Play action... with AD beating them up on the ground and PH killing them with slants and YAC... I can see BB getting a lot of single coverage deep.
Someone like BB's job is to beat 1 on 1 coverage deep... it's Favre's job to take advantage of those opportunities when he does.

Lets face it, with better QB play our entire offense will look better and be much more rounded in all aspects, running, short throws, deep balls.
Our line will look better and if our line actually does improve with the new additions, our O has the potential to be scary good.
There will be plenty of catches, yards, and scores to go around!

    I wasn't far off either.
Missed on B-wade and the RB's.
Of course if one were to look at pass production only out of the RB's I wouldn't have been that far off.

On a side note, anyone see how old that post was.
Someone could almost read good things about our current starter in there if one were to look really really really hard.

Looks like he is listening to me.
He's listening to Bevell who he respects and trusts.
But he still changes calls at the LOS, which is what the Vikes needed.
A experienced QB that the coaches trust to make the right adjustments.
