New Vikings stadium could cost $1 billion
http://www.startribune.com/510/story/1260199.html
The projected cost of a new Vikings stadium is expected to flirt with $1 billion if the Legislature does not approve the project in the 2008 session.
That's billion. With a B.
The cost of a stadium with a retractable roof on the site of the Metrodome is projected to be $954 million. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf told the Star Tribune two months ago that those estimated costs were based on projected 2008 construction and material costs.
But Thursday, the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, owners of the Metrodome and the Vikings' public partner in pursuit of a new stadium, said stadium costs would increase by about $41 million if the Legislature approves a new stadium in 2009, rather than next year. That would bring the total cost to $995 million...Kentucky Vikes Fan

The longer the wait, the more expensive it is going to be.

Re: New Vikings stadium could cost $1 billion
It all depends on the commercial construction economy. Our town is replacing their sewer system and we are getting some bids that are actually coming in lower than they would have been earlier because there are a few hungry contractors out there right now.

If the government would ease off some of their specs they could save a big chunk of change too.

Actually, winning games may not be enough to get a stadium. It wont be a problem if we start winning games.
Plain and simple.
With the state already funding a Twins Stadium, and a Gophers Football Stadium, they may not be willing to pick up the tab on any more stadium deals.
Neither of these stadiums (Twins) are really getting the financial support from the owner nor or they attempting to build the economic development around the stadium.
Just my thoughts
